Grace
"Carl, what's happening?" I asked.
"I don't know." He said as he pulled me close.
I watched as all of these doors shut and we were now trapped.
Daryl and Rick tried to bust down the door, but nothing worked.
"What's happening? Let's us out!" Rick yelled.
Dr. Jenner laughed, "You can't leave! I told you! It's going to decontaminate. Vi, explain the decontamination process." He asked Vi.
The computer voice emerged from the speakers, and it explained that this place would blow up.
"It sets the air on fire." Doctor Jenner laughed, with tears coming out of his eyes.
All of our faces dropped. How were we even supposed to react to something like this?
"Please let us leave! I cant let my daughter die like this." Carol cried.
Rick, Shane, and Daryl began shooting at the doors. Nothing happened. They didn't budge.
The time on the clock was now at 5 minutes.
"Carl?" I said, breaking the silence between us.
"Grace?" He said overlapping my words.
"Uh you go first." I said.
"Okay umm. Grace, I really really like you and. If we you know blow up. I just wanted you to know I guess..." he said shyly. I hugged him.
"So, what did you want to tell me?" He asked.
I smiled, "the same thing."
The scientist finally let us out, but Jacqui kept sitting with him.
"I want to stay. It's okay." She said.
Andrea did the same thing, but Dale wouldn't let her. They argued, but we couldn't say and watch. We only had a few minutes. A few minutes that would determine if we lived or died.
We all ran out and helplessly threw things at the glass hoping to escape before we were blown to bits. Nothing was working, even after we shot at the glass nothing happened. It was hopeless. We were going to die.
"Rick, I have something that might help." Carol spoke up.
"Carol, I don't think a nail file is gonna help." Shane said rudely just before she pulled a grenade out from her bag.
I rolled my eyes at Shane's blatant sexism. I hated that guy.
"I found it in your pocket when I was washing your clothes." She said as she handed him the weapon.
"Alright, everyone BACK UP!" Rick screamed.
Rick pulled the pin out of the grenade and put it against the glass. He ran over towards us as fast as he could, but before we even knew it the explosion sent him airborne. The glass shattered and the sound of the explosion pierced my ears.
I ran with Carl's hand in mine and leapt through the broken window. Fire and smoke surrounding us, but I figured that we'd be seeing more fire shortly. We hurried over to the cars. As I quickly slid into the car, it happened.
The amazing building where they were supposed to find a cure and finally end this thing was gone, it exploded and went up in flames. I couldn't help but think of Jacqui, I really wished she'd stuck around. I couldn't blame her though, a painless death where you don't even really realize that it's happening? That didn't sound like the most tragic way to go.
Everything looked like it was in slow motion. But once the fire spread quick and the ringing began in my ears, reality came once again. Carl and I were curled up in balls with our hands covering our ears from the sound. The whole RV shook. It was surreal.
Rick then drove off fast, leaving the blown-to-bits CDC behind. We then made our way onto the highway, things would be better from there, right?
Hi! I know this was a really short one. That's why I decided to NOT add Carl's POV. The next chapter will be longer since a lot of stuff happens on the highway. It may be a multiple part one like the CDC parts were :) I truly hope you are enjoying this.
