"Bye," I said to Alana before getting into the car. Then he started the car

"Lili, there's a new restaurant that opened near our house. Can we go there for dinner tonight?" he asked, smiling hopefully.

"Sorry but I have assig--nments, ," I replied quickly.

"It's okay," he said, continuing to drive.

I had lied to him. I didn't really have assignments. I just didn't want to go out tonight with him.

Not because I didn't enjoy his company, but because I'd noticed how hard he's been working these days. He's constantly busy, even bringing his work home and staying up late into the night. Despite all that, he still makes time for me-always picking me up and dropping me off at college, never late, never complaining.

He's been sleeping less, skipping meals, and I've seen how much pressure his dad has been putting on him at work. It bothers me, but he never shows it.

No matter how busy or tired he is, he still finds time to help me with everything-washing dishes, working on my assignments, even joining me when I'm watching K-dramas. Then he works through the night without a break.

That's why I canceled dinner tonight. I didn't want him to have to drive, entertain me, and then exhaust himself even more. I want him to relax.

I'm going to cook a nice meal for him tonight instead, something delicious, so he can come home and unwind.

He deserves that.

After I reached the house, I opened the door and turned to him.

"Can you come home early today?" I asked, hoping he would agree.

"W-why?" he stammered.

"I'm planning to make dessert," I replied with a smile.

"Actually-" he hesitated, pausing as if unsure how to respond. I understood.

"It's okay," I said, stepping out of the car. "No worries."

"Am sorry," he added, sounding guilty.

I smiled reassuringly. "It's really okay," I said before heading inside.

Once inside, I sat down, drank some water, and changed into comfortable clothes. I scrolled through my phone for a while before settling down to work on my assignments. After some time, a notification popped up on my phone. I opened it, and it was from my college.
