"Ohh, I understand," Lili said to her friend as she hung up the phone. Everything was packed, and we were just about to leave for the airport for her industrial trip.

"Lili, let's go," I said, signaling that it was time to leave.

"No, the trip is canceled," she said, her voice calm but disappointed.

"Why?" I immediately asked, a little surprised.

"There are some issues at the university, so the trip got canceled," she explained.

"Oh, I see," I replied, trying to hide my relief.

"I'll unpack everything and make dinner," she added, heading inside with her bags.

"Don't be upset, Lili," I said, trying to comfort her.

"No, I'm not," she assured me, though I could see the disappointment in her eyes as she went to unpack.

I sat down on the bed, feeling the weight of my actions. It was me who pulled the strings to cancel her university trip. I made sure it wouldn't happen. I have connections everywhere; getting something like this done wasn't difficult.

I cancelled the trip because I didn't want Lili to leave. The thought of being without her, even for a few days, was unbearable. I'm addicted to her-she's like a necessity in my life, something I can't live without.

I might sound selfish, and maybe I am when it comes to her, but that's how I feel.

I can't let her go anywhere, not when I'd be left feeling so alone without her by my side.

Then I took out my phone and checked some emails, trying to distract myself from thinking about what I'd done. If I let myself dwell on it, I might regret it, and I didn't want that. I just needed to focus on something else for now.

I worked for almost an hour and a half, answering emails and handling some work. After finishing up, I put my phone down and went to the kitchen to check on Lili.

When I entered, I saw her cooking, focused on the stove.

"You sit, I'll take over and serve," I said, gently pushing her aside and taking over. She didn't argue, just nodded and went to sit at the dining table, scrolling through her phone.

I finished the rest of the cooking, served the plates, cleaned up the kitchen, filled the glasses, and brought everything to the dining table.

As I set everything down, I looked at her, still scrolling on her phone. There was a slight smile on her face, probably lost in whatever she was reading. I felt a strange mix of guilt and relief, knowing that she didn't have to leave now, but also knowing I had taken away something important to her. But I couldn't help it.
