Avni grabbed Vanya's hand, pulling her gently toward the center of the room where Noor entered, arms laden with a bundle of colorful sarees. The room, once serene, now felt like a chaotic fashion battlefield. Vibrant hues draped over chairs and tables, pooling at their feet as indecision filled the air.
"Nope, not this one," Avni muttered, scrunching her face in disapproval as she tossed aside a coral pink saree.
"Hmmm... this one's a no, too," Noor chimed in, waving off another option, her keen eye sweeping over the intricate designs with a practiced efficiency. A growing pile of rejected sarees began to gather around Vanya's feet.
Vanya, feeling out of place in this lively whirlwind, stood as still as a mannequin. Her hands nervously brushed against the delicate fabric of the sarees surrounding her, her eyes flitting between Noor and Avni, tracking the rapid movements of cloth as if trying to make sense of the chaotic storm around her.
Avni groaned, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "Seriously? Fifty sarees and not one works?"
"This isn't exactly a boutique," Noor teased, but her tone hinted at shared frustration. "We're running out of time, and none of these feel right."
Avni huffed, folding her arms over her chest as her eyes scanned the wardrobe once more. "Is my closet a saree showroom or what? I swear, sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in fabric."
The tension simmered in the room, a quiet urgency rising as the minutes ticked by. Noor sighed, walking over to sit on the chair . "Now what? We're going to be late."
Vanya, who had been silently observing, hesitated before offering, "It's fine. I can just wear one of these-"
"No way!" Avni cut her off, her face lighting up as if struck by sudden inspiration. "I know what's missing! There's one more saree... I got it for my farewell, but I never wore it. It's still in the box."
Noor perked up at the mention. "Where is it?"
Avni didn't waste a second. She darted across the room to a cupboard, frantically rummaging through the contents. Unopened gifts tumbled around her as she sifted through boxes, her hair falling into loose waves as she worked. Vanya watched, a knot of guilt tightening in her stomach. All this fuss... for her?
"Really, it's okay. I don't want to cause trouble. I'll just_____," before Vanya could finish.
