No matter if you believe it or if you care

Destiny isn't what it was

There's more pain and more loss —

Falling asleep after talking to Chay was one of the hardest things Kim had ever done. It was as if his mind simply couldn't believe it really happened—that they talked despite so much time and space between them. The Ruby Red, Kim realised, was one of the most treasured possessions in his life. Oh, how much that little gem was worth it, how great of a connection it was between him and Chay... Kim squeezed the Ruby Red tightly in his palm and pressed it to his chest. Tomorrow. In the morning. Right in the morning, he is going to use it again... he will go back to his everything.

Kim didn't even realise when his eyes fell shot, and it was already morning, and he was fluttering his eyes open. He wasn't quite sure if he slept for hours or if it were only minutes, but he felt rested enough to try.

But first, he had to put himself together after sleeping, get some delicious breakfast into his system, and say goodbye to Chay's grandmother. She had been truly so good to him. She felt like a mother he had lost all those years ago.

Already on the stairs, Kim smelled something good. He had no idea what it was, but it smelled sweet, and Kim couldn't help himself but lick his lips while his stomach growled in anticipation.

"Oh, good morning, Kim. Slept well?" Chay's grandmother smiled when she noticed him and put a plate on a table. "Pancakes—I hope you like them. They are with bananas and strawberries."

Kim sat down at the table, scrunched his nose, and started examining the plate. After a couple of seconds, he looked up at Chay's grandmother with a bright smile and a flicker in his eyes. "Thank you. I didn't have pancakes since I was a child."

Chay's grandmother smiled fondly at him, "well, then this is long overdue. Enjoy them. You can have as much as you want."

"Really? As much as I want?" Kim blinked in surprise. In his century, food wasn't really something he could say they had an abundance of. "All of this is only for breakfast?"

Chay's mother nodded, "of course, sweetheart. I'll make something else for lunch... well, if you are planning to still be here by then."

Kim ducked his head and cleared his throat, "actually," he looked up at Chay's grandmother again, "I'm going to try to go back right after breakfast. Last night... this sounds so crazy, but Chay and I—"

"You talked to each other, didn't you?" Chay's grandmother smiled knowingly.

Kim's body tensed. He looked straight at Chay's grandmother, "how did you know?"
