— what is happiness and how does it feel
is it something you can touch or hear?
I never thought it felt like this
But then you hugged me and gave me a kiss —
Chay started laughing. Laugh simply burst out of him, and it was like the only thing he could do because this whole thing was hilarious. Oracle. His grandmother. Oracle. He had no idea why Kim thought that jokes were needed right now, but this one really worked. Oracle... his grandmother.
"As much as I love the sound of your laugh, darlin'... this is not a joke," Kim said seriously, making Chay's feelings turn sombre, and his laugh slowly fade away.
Chay shook his head, "no... it has to be a joke. Kim... my grandmother is an old seventy-five years old lady who definitely has no magical powers to jump back and forth between centuries. Are you crazy?!"
Kim nodded, "yes, you know what? I do feel crazy because it makes no sense... I know it doesn't, but I'm completely serious—your grandmother told me that she is the Oracle and a second later, I was floating in the ocean."
Chay just kept shaking his head, trying to process what Kim told him, but his mind just wouldn't. His grandmother... she was the one who taught him everything about the Ruby Red, she was the one who raised him, who always took care of him. If she was the Oracle, how come she never told him? How come Chay didn't recognize her when he went with Kim to The Bay of Sorrows? It just couldn't be the truth.
"Kim, that's just impossible. Why wouldn't she ever tell me? And how old would that make her? Three hundred... four hundred years? That's just crazy!" Chay chuckled nervously.
"If we truly master the Ruby Red, we can reach immortality. That's what the Oracle said, right? Then who's to say that the Oracle can't be immortal as well? If anything, it would be much easier for me to accept that someone like the Oracle can be immortal, than that I can be immortal," Kim was really trying to come up with anything that would sound reasonable, something that would explain it all. Something that would calm his Chay, but he wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing.
"Why wouldn't she ever tell me?" Chay asked again, his voice a bit weaker than before. "What is this all about? Is it the Ruby Red that wants us together, or is it her?"
"It's us, Chay," Kim caressed Chay's cheek, pressing a soft kiss on his forehead. "We want us together, darlin'. Whatever or whoever it was that brought us together—I don't bloody care. All I care about is that you are mine, I'm yours, and together, we can go through anything. I don't know why your grandmother never told you the truth, but I'm here with you, Chay. Be angry or upset. Cry if you want to... I'm right here."
"I want to talk to her," Chay mumbled, hiding himself in Kim's arms, lips pressed to Kim's neck.
"You want to time travel again?" Kim asked, his hands slowly caressing Chay's stiffened back.
