— these promises we make

how long will it take for them to break?

how much blood will be there

on the last day we share? —

"I have one more question to ask before we leave," Chay stopped at the door of the shack and turned around back to the Oracle... or his grandmother... or whatever. "You said that if we master the Ruby Red, then we can travel back and forth in time and become immortal..."

"Yes, I believe I said that," the Oracle nodded.

"And you also said that the immortality applies only to Kim and I."

"Yes." the oracle nodded again.

"So... if, let's say... you die, or Kim's mother dies in twenty... thirty years... does it mean that both of you are gone forever, or will you still be here if we just travel back in time?" It was the only hope Chay had about this situation. Being with Kim for the rest of eternity sounded like the most beautiful thing in the world, but losing all the other people he cared about in the process sounded like the worst kind of nightmare. So what if he hoped to have it all? Was that so bad?

The Oracle's eyes turned completely purple before they turned back to her natural dark hazelnut colour, and she said with a proud smile, "I was waiting for one of you to ask this—"

"You were waiting?!" Kim jumped into the conversation. "Are you saying that what Chay asked is correct? And you were letting us leave without such an important piece of information? Why couldn't you just tell us from the beginning? Why couldn't you just tell us everything from the beginning?"

"Because I knew you would figure it out sooner or later. And you did. It's exactly how it's supposed to be."

Kim took a deep breath to say something again, but Chay stopped him by putting a hand on his shoulder. He shook his head silently at Kim and looked at the Oracle again, "so what's your answer to my question? The clear answer with no secrets."

"Whenever you travel back here from your century, Chay, are all the people who were here when you came for the first time, still here?" the Oracle asked.

"Of course, they are here!" Chay replied, frustrated.

"Even though, when you are in your century, they all should be dead?"

"Yes, they are all still here whenever I come back. Can you stop asking stupid questions and just be clear?!"

"I think she is pretty clear," Kim said, looking at the Oracle, "she is saying that we can travel back in time whenever we want to and see anyone who can't be with us in the distant future. Am I right?"

"Kimhan is correct. You may not have Kim's mother, Pearl, or me in the future, but you will still have Kim's mother and Pearl here."

"What about you?" the question slipped Chay's mouth before he could even think about it. But it was normal for him to ask. The Oracle was his grandmother, after all. He wanted to have her here as well. But she had also been with him since he was born, so even if she disappeared from here, she would still be in the 21st century, right? He wasn't sure if he was ready to let go of his grandmother.
