Chapter 23
Staggered.
Aaliyah was feeling comfortable and uncomfortable with the way they were in. She didn't know, but somehow she felt safe with Soonyoung. But she felt danger with herself.
Na. I am in definite danger, she said in her mind.
She squirmed, determined to escape the cage she was suddenly in. Unknowingly, she would put herself in more danger. Her left hand, which was supporting her body, glided into one of the papers on her desk, making her crumble as it abruptly slid off the table. She gasped in panic.
She almost got laid on the desk. Luckily, Soonyoung was fast enough to catch her. "괜찮아 (gwaenchana)? Are you okay?" Soonyoung said in worry. He also panicked when Aaliyah almost had an accident. If he had not held her on time, she would have hit her head on the desk already.
Aaliyah was thankful. But she also noticed that it got worse. Soonyoung was also leaning into the table, his weight supported by one hand on the table while the other held onto her waist.
If it was a bit while ago, this time, it was already so near. There was not enough air for her to breathe. She could feel his fresh mint breath fanning into her face. Her face must have been beet red. But it was not what she got worried about, but the way her heart began to pound weirdly.
"Aali, are you okay?" Aaliyah's hearing of Soonyoung restored her sanity.
She nodded as a motion response, meeting his eyes. She doesn't want to talk, as it would be more dangerous. They were so close to each other that she was panicking inside. Aaliyah wanted to turn her head. However, she didn't want to look wimpy. It suddenly became a competition.
She calmed herself and cleared her throat. She stared back with the same intensity. "You're squishing me, Soonyoung-ssi," Aaliyah commented. That was when she thought Soonyoung would distance himself.
Instead, he was bold enough to pull her back to her feet. Slightly, she pushed Soonyoung.
Did he give me a sly smile? That was not possible, Aaliyah began debating in her head.
"My phone," Aaliyah said, stretching her hand to Soonyoung.
The guy hesitated. However, her hanging hand made him feel bad, so he returned the phone to her. "Please don't read it yet," Soonyoung pleaded.
Aaliyah was insensitive. She knew that, but she felt him today. She knew that it would affect Soonyoung. There was embarrassment, and she was sure of it. "Okay. Fine. I won't. Here," Soonyoung was dumbfounded when the lady gave in and surrendered her phone. She was now handing her phone to him that easily.
"And since I am giving my phone. Aren't you here for something?" Aaliyah told the guy. She crossed her arms on her chest, testing if the guy was really just there to see her.
"I am here to see you, and if you are not busy today..." he hesitated. Aaliyah waited. "Can I take you somewhere?" Soonyoung asks.
"Sure," Soonyoung was astounded to hear the lady give an abrupt answer. He knows that she is swamped and would not accept sudden invitations. However, she did today.
Usually, Soonyoung would wait until all her classes were finished. But Aaliyah agreed to his invitation in the middle of the day.
Aaliyah was astonished by the view of the road they began taking. It was the sea. It was a coastal road, and she liked it. It is bringing her back to her last vacation. "Areumdawo," Aaliyah heard while she was staring at the sea from the car window.
