Chapter 19

BACK IN HEAVEN, LYDIA AND I said goodbye to Captain Kirk, the crew, the impressive Starship Enterprise, and the other mission rookies, who, like us, were still in training but eager for their missions to begin. We decided to walk back to the dorm. Along the way I got an urgent telepathic message to contact Antonio.

"Lydia, what's going on...I just heard from Antonio and everything's set up for us to go on our mission! How can that be, we weren't gone that long, were we?"

"Oh, I forgot to tell you...traveling through wormholes really distorts time. What for us didn't seem that long, actually a lot of time was passing in heaven."

"Well...that's interesting, I guess, but are you...are we ready for this?" I needed to ask, more than a little unsure of myself given the gravity of our Diva Deity mission's higher purpose.

"You know, why wait. Anyway, those people on Calidari need us, need something to help them find out about the Creator and hopefully lead better lives," Lydia shared, reminding me of the terrible images in the square.

That's all I had to hear and I was able to set aside my hesitation.

"Lydia, can I use your cell...I need to call Antonio to let him know we're back and ready to go."

Lydia handed me heaven's version of a smart phone. Passing me the gizmo, it took a few moments before I recognized it as an exact replica of a Star Trek Communicator. Like the Starship Enterprise, the fictional communication device was designed to look authentic, but the internal electronics were state-of-the-art high-tech heaven.

"How do I use this thing?" I pleaded.

"Oh, that's right you haven't been issued your phone yet. That was on my list of things to do for you before we left, not that we can take anything with us on the mission, but so you'd have it when we got back."

"Okay, that will be good, but still how does it work?"

Things were so different here from everything I'd ever imagined. You'd expect heaven to have technological advances far beyond even what our best science-fiction minds on Earth could dream up. There were amazing things going on, our android-perfect bodies, the gravity-defying architecture, the brilliant hierarchy of Spirit Beings, but there were also simple, organic, low-tech items like bicycles, radios, televisions, and yes, cell phones. I had a cell on Earth, but aside from its general appearance, it certainly didn't work like my iPhone.

"It's simple, really...first of all it's programmed to only respond to your unique body frequency, so to turn it on I'll have to wave my hand over it. Once on, you'll see the screen come to life. All you have to do is imagine the person or place you want to contact and a picture will be displayed. Then, just tap the image and the call will be placed. Can you handle that?" Lydia teased.

"All right...all right...I get it, now wave your hand over the phone, will you?"

The communicator worked like a charm, and within seconds I was speaking with Antonio.

"I see you and Lydia went on the Starship Enterprise. I was hoping you guys would. Our newbies who've gone always rave about how it helped them feel more comfortable when it actually came time to go. Anyway, while you were gone the last of the preparations for your mission came together. All the major players have signed on, and a few are heavy-hitters who played a role during the critical mission when Jesus came to Earth, so you'll be in good hands should anything go wrong. I was about to schedule the departure date, but I just wanted to make sure you were still feeling good about everything," Antonio respectfully asked, but with a distinctly hopeful tone given all the work it took to get everything ready.
