The next morning, when Ominis awoke, he jumped up in a panic. His typically completely dark vision saw a light blue glow, coming from the core of what looked vaguely like the shape of a person. He let out a warning sound and jumped across the room. The shape shuffled and moved slowly. He heard Iris' voice, asking him what was wrong. The voice was coming from the shape. He took a few calming breaths and began puzzling this out. He had seen Iris' eyes glow this color, but darker before when she was using her ancient magic. Now it's like he could see the structure of magic inside her, but it was lighter. She hadn't been using it, she was asleep. He filled her in and he heard surprise from her voice. She reached out and touched him, and very little traces flowed up his arm she was touching. He told her and she was amazed. So was he!

They spent the morning experimenting with it. When she actually thought on "powering up" the ancient magic, it flowed brighter blue and he could see the network flowing through her body more clearly. He was quite emotional he could "see her" even without his cane. She was pondering it all morning, and kept saying she wished she could ask the keepers.

"I wonder if it's because we got so close last night, we told each other all our secrets, and saw each other for what we are? I didn't know it was possible?", Iris guessed. He figured it was as good an explanation as any.

Nox came home a few hours later, and she was literally floating on air, she was so happy. He pulled her outside so they could talk. He didn't say much, just listened.

"So I probably should have said something to you sooner...but I have been having some strong feelings for Natsai for a few weeks. Your friend Sebastian helped me understand it was attraction. Not only physically, but emotionally. I truly didn't think I would ever find a real connection with someone Ominis! I didn't know so many things....and I wanted what you and Iris have. We aren't there yet, but we finally got brave enough to admit we fancy each other! Please please tell me you aren't upset!".

Ominis scoffed. "Even if I was, what would that matter? Also, I would like to think you know me enough that I just want you happy."

"Ominis....you are head of the Gaunt family now, what you think has the utmost importance. Surely you know this? We are the main line and you are the eldest son now. You are to marry a pure blood witch. All the bylaws in our family have been satisfied, you are the heir. I wouldn't follow anyone else".

Her words hit him like a ton of bricks. Iris and him had been planning on searching out and fighting the remaining factions of the Gaunt family....however, he could...not that he wanted too...take charge and put it to rest. He felt like he was going to have a panic attack. Nox rested her hand on his and sat with him until his heart rate slowed down.

"Do you approve, brother? If you don't, I will stop this before we get any farther than the kiss we shared." She said, with some reverence in her voice.

He closed his eyes. He didn't like that she was still so subservient.

"Nox, what I want is for you to live your life, however you want. As long as you devote your life to something to help others, not hurt them like our family did. I want you to be able to be strong enough that you tell me to go fuck myself if I don't agree with your choices. You have it in you. Also, Natsai is my best friend, I would be daft to not rejoice over you caring for her. She is the very best kind of people, I strive to be like her and Iris everyday. By the way, maybe don't tell Sebastian I still said she is my best friend".

She chuckled, "oh he wouldn't mind, he doesn't want to be just your friend. I do hope he finds love, his heart is just so big!". He could hear her smiling. That man could charm anyone.

"I am glad to hear you approve of Natsai, I would like to begin courting her then!". Nox said.

Ominis laughed, she was still so damn formal.
