While he was making a sandwich in the kitchen, he heard the sound of footsteps above him. A few moments later, Lily appeared, her hair tousled and her eyes still sleepy. "Hey, sleepyhead," he greeted her, smiling as she rubbed her eyes.
"Hey," she replied, stifling a yawn. "What time is it?"
"Just past noon," Lando said, sliding a plate with the sandwich toward her. "I made you something. Thought you might be hungry after all that sleeping."
"Thanks," she said, taking a bite. "How was your visit with your mum?"
"It was great," he replied, leaning against the counter. "We caught up on everything. She really wants to meet you again soon."
Lily's eyes sparkled with interest. "I'd love that! Your mum is so sweet."
Just as they settled into their conversation, the doorbell rang, breaking the moment. Lando exchanged a puzzled glance with Lily. "Who could that be?"
"Maybe it's one of your friends?" Lily suggested, standing up to follow Lando to the door.
When Lando opened it, he was met with a surprise that made his heart race. Standing on the porch was none other than Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, both grinning widely.
"Surprise!" Carlos exclaimed, stepping forward. "We thought we'd drop by and see you guys!"
"Hey! What are you doing here?" Lando asked, a mix of excitement and confusion filling his voice.
"We're on a break between races, so we figured we'd come hang out," Charles said, his trademark smile lighting up the room. "And we wanted to see how you and Lily are doing."
Lily stepped forward, her face lighting up with a smile. "Hey, guys! This is a lovely surprise!"
"Hey, Lily!" Carlos said, waving. "You look great. How's everything?"
"Thanks! I'm good," she replied, her enthusiasm matching theirs. "Come in! Do you want some food or drinks?"
Lando stepped aside, allowing his friends to enter. "Yeah, we just made a sandwich. Help yourselves to whatever's in the fridge!"
As they settled into the living room, laughter filled the space as they caught up. The light banter and teasing that came so naturally between them created an instant sense of camaraderie.
"So, what's the latest gossip?" Carlos asked, leaning back comfortably on the couch. "Lando, have you finally proposed to Lily yet?"
"Not yet," Lando replied, rolling his eyes playfully. "You two are terrible. You just love to stir the pot!"
"Come on, it's not a bad idea," Charles chimed in, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "You'd get a headline or two!"
Lily laughed, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Maybe one day," she said, glancing at Lando with a teasing smile.
The conversation flowed effortlessly, and Lando couldn't help but feel grateful for the moments like this. As they reminisced about old races, shared funny stories, and discussed upcoming events, it felt like everything was right in the world.
Hours flew by, and the sun began to dip low in the sky, casting a golden glow through the windows. The friends settled into a comfortable rhythm, sharing food and laughter, with Lando and Lily feeling more at home than ever.
"Hey, do you guys want to join us for dinner?" Lando asked, glancing at Lily, who nodded enthusiastically.
"Definitely! I'm always up for a good meal," Carlos replied.
As they all gathered in the kitchen, Lando felt a warmth in his chest. This was what life was all about—friends, laughter, and the simple joy of being together. He looked around at the people he cared about, feeling grateful for every moment they shared. Little did he know, this surprise reunion was just the beginning of even more unforgettable memories.
