Lily leaned over the bathroom sink, gripping the cool edge of the marble countertop as another wave of nausea hit her. The sound of running water from the faucet barely drowned out her groan. She splashed cold water on her face, trying to steady herself, but the uneasy feeling lingered.
This was the fifth time this week, and she was starting to worry.
"Lily?" Lando's voice came from downstairs. "You okay?"
"Yeah!" she called back, though her shaky tone betrayed her. She took a deep breath, straightened up, and glanced at herself in the mirror. Her skin looked pale, and there were faint dark circles under her eyes.
Lando's footsteps echoed up the stairs, and within moments, he appeared in the doorway, his brow furrowed with concern. "You don't look okay," he said, stepping closer.
"I'm fine," she insisted, waving him off. "It's just a stomach bug or something. It'll pass."
"Lily, you've been like this for a week," he said, crossing his arms. "You need to see a doctor."
She sighed, knowing he was right but reluctant to admit it. "I don't need to go anywhere. It's probably nothing."
"Probably isn't good enough," Lando replied, gently placing his hands on her shoulders. "Come on, I'll call Dr. Harper. She can see you today."
Lily groaned, but she knew there was no point arguing. Lando was persistent when it came to her well-being, and deep down, she was grateful for it.
A few hours later, they were seated in Dr. Harper's office. Lily fidgeted with the hem of her sweater while Lando sat beside her, his knee bouncing nervously.
Dr. Harper entered the room, her kind smile putting them both at ease. "Lily, Lando. What brings you in today?"
Lando spoke up before Lily could. "She's been feeling sick for a week. Vomiting, fatigue, the works."
Dr. Harper nodded, making notes. "Alright, Lily, I'll run a few tests to rule out anything serious. In the meantime, let's start with some questions."
After answering a series of inquiries about her symptoms and recent habits, Lily was sent for blood work and a quick examination.
The waiting felt like an eternity. Lando kept glancing at Lily, his worry evident despite his attempt to stay calm.
Finally, Dr. Harper returned, holding a file. Her expression was warm, almost excited, and it caught both of them off guard.
"Well," she began, sitting down across from them. "I have some news."
Lily leaned forward, her heart racing. "What is it?"
"You're pregnant," Dr. Harper said, her smile widening.
For a moment, the room fell silent. Lily's eyes widened as she processed the words, and Lando's jaw dropped.
"Pregnant?" Lily repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes," Dr. Harper confirmed. "About six weeks along, from what I can tell. Congratulations!"
Lando let out a laugh, a mixture of shock and pure joy. "We're having another baby?" he asked, looking at Lily with wide eyes.
Tears welled up in Lily's eyes as she nodded. "I... I guess we are."
Lando leaned over and pulled her into a tight hug, his excitement radiating. "This is amazing, Lil. Gemma's going to have a little sibling!"
Lily laughed through her tears, overwhelmed but happy. "I can't believe it. Another baby."
Dr. Harper handed them some pamphlets and instructions for prenatal care, reminding them to schedule follow-ups.
As they walked out of the office hand in hand, Lando couldn't stop grinning. "I told you going to the doctor was a good idea."
Lily playfully swatted his arm. "Alright, alright. You were right."
Back in the car, they sat in silence for a moment, letting the news sink in.
"Gemma's going to be thrilled," Lando said, breaking the silence.
Lily smiled, placing a hand on her stomach. "I hope she's ready to share the spotlight."
"She'll be the best big sister," Lando said confidently.
