2 WEEKS EARLIER...

Truth pulled up in the driveway and stared at the house for a moment, the car still running.

"Dad?" Taylor said from the back seat,

"Yes Tay, we're home," He said in a low mumble, "Can you help me with your brother while I get the stuff out of the trunk?"

"Is she here?" Taylor asked quietly,

"I don't know Princess, we have to go in and find out," Truth sighed, cutting the engine off.

Taylor got out of the car and prompted Tahj to follow her, before they headed up the cobbled steps.

"Hi babies," Iman opened the door with a wide smile, "I just took the cookies out of the oven," She leaned down to kiss Taylor's head.

"Yum," Taylor smiled giving Iman a big hug, making Iman stumble backwards slightly. "Missed you Nana," She whispered into her stomach.

"I missed you more," Iman smiled rubbing her back. "What about you Tahj? Did you have a good day today?" She lifted him up carefully.

"Mama," Tahj said softly, his thumb wedged between his baby teeth.

"Mama is here come on," Iman replied walking them into the house.

Truth focused on getting Tahari out without waking him up, grabbing a few bags of food he picked up.

"Has she um —"

"Still the same," Iman cleared her throat. "Cookies," She exclaimed, plastering her smile back on. It was the only thing that stopped her from being a sobbing mess.

Truth put Tahari's seat down on the couch, hoping he remained asleep.

"How was work?" Iman asked him, "Or practice I should say?" She raised a brow.

"It was good, it's been a while since I've been on the court so I was slow," He spoke sitting down. "How has it been today? You know with Zahra," He reached for the grapes.

"Wash your hands please," Iman narrowed her eyes at him,

"Yes ma'am," Truth chuckled standing up to wash his hands.

"She had a therapy session this morning, I sat in with her and I think it was productive," She responded.

"Did she talk?" He asked hopefully,

"A little," Iman mumbled quietly. "Still very low and croaky, it was like she wanted to but she couldn't,"

Truth nodded his head, "She talks to me," He told her.

"She does?" She frowned,

"At night, she talks but it's so fucking quiet that I have to stop breathing just to hear her," He said looking down at the grapes.

"I'm glad she has you," Iman spoke lowly, "In all the years, I've never been more hopeful that she'll recover,"

"You do more than me," Truth responded, "You're with her all day, making sure the kids are good; I don't know what we would do without you,"

Iman gushed and reached over to give him a hug, "That's what moms do," She told him with a small smile.

"Take this up for her, I'm sure she'll be happy you're home," She handed him a tray of food.

Truth headed up the stairs to their bedroom, and knocked lightly before he walked in.

Zahra was sat up watching television, her eyes lighting up when she saw him.
