Chapter 42: A Desperate Plea
Filip's POV
The van rumbled down the road, the tension thick in the air. I glanced over at Rena, her body rigid, her eyes distant as she sat tied up next to Fil. Guilt gnawed at me, but I pushed it aside. I was doing this for our family, for her, for our son.
I turned to the driver. "Get us back to the house as fast as possible," I commanded, my voice low. The man nodded silently, picking up speed.
I could feel Rena's anger from across the van, the silent accusations hanging between us like a blade. She didn't understand. I had to make her see that this was the only way-she couldn't just run with Fil and leave me behind.
"Rena," I started, my voice softer than before. "You don't know what you're doing. Running like that... it's dangerous out there. I just want to keep you both safe."
She turned her head slowly, her eyes blazing with fury. "Safe? You call this safe, Filip? You hired people to chase me down and rip me away from my son! How is this safe?"
I swallowed hard, my heart hammering against my chest. "I didn't mean for it to happen like that. I just... I panicked. You were leaving me, and I couldn't let you go."
Her expression was cold, unreadable. "You think you own me. You think you can control us. But all you're doing is pushing us further away."
The truth in her words stung, but I couldn't back down. Not now. I had to make her understand. "I never wanted it to come to this," I said quietly. "But you're right-I didn't know how else to make you stay."
She looked away, her jaw clenched. "You can't force me to love you, Filip. You can't control me into forgiving you."
I felt desperation clawing at me. "I don't want to control you," I whispered. "I just want my family back. I just want you to forgive me."

Rena's POV
His words were like poison, seeping into the cracks of my heart. I used to love him-I had given everything to him. But now? Now, he was a stranger, a dangerous man who would go to any lengths to keep me trapped.
Fil's soft breathing beside me was the only thing keeping me from breaking down completely. I had to be strong for him, no matter how scared I was. But how could I escape this? How could I protect him from a man so desperate for control?
"You think forgiveness is something you can take, Filip?" I spat, my voice shaking. "You think I'll just forget everything you've done?"
His face fell, and for a moment, I saw the man I once knew-the man who had loved me, who had cherished me. But that man was gone, replaced by someone consumed by possessiveness.
"I've made mistakes," he admitted, his voice cracking. "But I can change, Rena. I can be better for you, for Fil. Just give me a chance."
I shook my head, the weight of his promises feeling like chains tightening around me. "It's not that simple. You don't get to decide what's best for me. You don't get to take away my freedom and then expect me to come back to you."
His eyes darkened with frustration. "I'm not asking for perfection. I'm asking for us to be a family again."
---
Filip's POV
Her rejection was like a knife to the heart. I had spent years building this family, and now it felt like it was slipping through my fingers. Rena didn't see that all I wanted was to protect her, to keep Fil safe from the world's dangers.
I leaned forward, my voice pleading. "I'm not perfect, Rena. But neither are you. We both made mistakes. You can't just walk away from this."
She turned her face to the window, refusing to look at me. "I'm not walking away. I'm running because I have no other choice. You're not the man I loved anymore, Filip. You're someone else, someone I don't recognize."
Those words hit me like a sledgehammer. Someone else. The depth of her pain was something I had never fully understood until now. She wasn't just angry-she was scared of me.
I reached out, but she flinched away, and that small movement broke something inside me. I never wanted her to fear me, but that's what I had become to her. Someone to be afraid of.
"I'll fix this," I promised. "I'll do whatever it takes. Just... don't give up on me, on us."
---
Rena's POV
His desperation tugged at my heart, but I couldn't let it cloud my judgment. I had seen this side of Filip before-this cycle of apologies, of promises, of guilt. But each time, things only got worse.
I couldn't let him pull me back into that trap. I had to stay strong, for myself, for Fil. "I've already given up, Filip. I've given you so many chances, and each time you break them. This time, it's too late."
The van jerked as it came to a stop. My heart raced as the reality of the situation crashed down on me again. We were back at the house, the place I had tried so hard to escape from.
Filip stepped out of the van, his face hard with determination. He opened the door and reached for me. "We'll figure this out, Rena. I'll make you see we can be a family again."
I shook my head, my body trembling with a mix of fear and anger. "No, Filip. You can't force me to stay. I'll find a way out, and when I do, I'm taking Fil with me."
He froze, his eyes locking onto mine. "You're not taking my son from me."
I glared at him, my voice cold and steady. "Watch me."
This wasn't over. Not by a long shot. And I would find a way to escape, no matter what it took.
