Chapter 23: The Mask Falls
Rena's POV
Jason led me through the darkened streets, his hand gripping mine firmly, but not forcefully. His voice was calm, almost comforting, as he whispered reassurances in my ear. I had no idea where we were going, but after everything that had happened with Filip, I felt a strange sense of relief. Jason was supposed to be my escape, my savior.
"I've got you, Rena. You're safe now," he said softly, glancing over at me with a smile that felt too sincere, too perfect. I nodded, though something gnawed at me deep inside-something that told me I wasn't as safe as I wanted to believe.
After what seemed like an eternity of walking, we arrived at a crumbling, abandoned building. The windows were shattered, the walls cracked and covered in graffiti. My stomach churned as I hesitated at the entrance, unsure of why Jason had brought me here.
"Why are we here?" I asked, my voice small, the unease growing.
Jason turned to me, that same disarming smile on his face. "It's just a temporary place, Rena. Somewhere no one will find us. Somewhere we can be alone."
The words, though gentle, sent a shiver down my spine. I followed him inside, the darkened space swallowing us whole. The air was damp, the sound of dripping water echoing in the silence. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
As we reached the center of the building, Jason suddenly stopped. He turned to face me, his expression shifting-no longer the calm, reassuring figure I had known. His eyes darkened, and the smile that once seemed so warm now twisted into something cold, dangerous.
"Rena," he said, his voice lower now, almost a growl. "You have no idea how long I've waited for this moment."
My heart skipped a beat. Panic rose in my throat as I tried to step back, but Jason's hand shot out, grabbing my wrist tightly.
"Jason, what are you doing?" I stammered, my breath quickening.
He laughed, a cruel sound that echoed through the empty building. "You really thought I was rescuing you, didn't you? Poor Rena, so naive. I didn't take you from Filip to save you. I took you because you belong to me."
My blood ran cold as his grip tightened painfully around my wrist, pulling me closer. His other hand reached up to cup my face, his touch rough, his fingers digging into my skin.
"I've loved you for so long," he continued, his voice dripping with obsession. "But you never saw me. Not the way you looked at Filip. That's why I had to do this. To make you see that I'm the one you should be with."
"Jason, please..." I tried to pull away, but his hold was too strong. The fear that had been lurking inside me now exploded into full-blown terror.
Jason's eyes blazed with intensity, his face inches from mine. "Don't fight me, Rena. You can't run from me. You're mine now."
My heart pounded in my chest as I struggled to break free, but Jason's strength was overwhelming. I was trapped, and the person I thought would save me had become my worst nightmare.
"You'll love me," he whispered, his voice low and menacing. "Even if I have to make you."
