Chapter 28: The Unwelcome Reunion

Filip's POV

Everything had been going smoothly during our visit to Rena's family. I was feeling good about giving her this time with them, and we had begun to feel like a normal couple—at least, as normal as we could be. But that was before he walked in.

We were about to leave when the door opened, and in strolled a tall man, all smiles, as if he belonged there. His eyes immediately found Rena, and I watched as her face lit up in a way that made my blood boil.

"Rena!" he called out, his voice filled with excitement. "It's been way too long!"

Rena rushed over to him, a broad smile on her face. "Friend! I can't believe you're here!"

They embraced, and every muscle in my body tensed. Who was this guy, and why was he acting like he had a right to be this close to her?

I stepped forward, my arm instinctively wrapping around Rena’s waist, pulling her to me. "And who might you be?" I asked, my tone sharp.

Rena, oblivious to the tension brewing inside me, introduced him with a bright smile. "Filip, this is Friend, my childhood friend. We grew up together. Friend, this is Filip, my husband."

Friend’s smile faltered for just a second, but he quickly recovered, extending his hand to me. "Nice to meet you, Filip. Rena’s told me so much about you."

I ignored his hand for a moment, letting the silence stretch before finally shaking it, squeezing just a little harder than necessary. "Likewise," I muttered through gritted teeth.

Friend, completely unaware of—or ignoring—the tension, turned back to Rena. "I can't believe it’s been so long. Remember all those summers we spent causing trouble? Feels like it was yesterday."

Rena laughed, clearly caught up in the nostalgia. "Oh, I know! Those were some of the best times of my life."

My grip on her waist tightened. She was talking like I wasn’t even there, like he mattered more than the man who was actually her husband. My possessiveness surged, and I could feel my jaw clench as I stared at him, my eyes narrowing.

"Maybe we should catch up sometime?" Friend suggested, completely ignoring my presence as he spoke directly to her.

Before Rena could respond, I cut in. "Actually, we’re heading back to the city," I said sharply. "We don’t have time for reunions."

Rena looked up at me, frowning slightly. "Filip, we’re not in a rush. I haven’t seen Friend in ages—"

"We are in a rush," I corrected, my voice leaving no room for argument. "Business calls."

Friend looked from me to Rena, sensing the rising tension. "I didn’t mean to intrude. I just wanted to say hi and catch up."

Rena smiled softly at him, trying to smooth things over. "We’ll catch up next time, okay?"

Friend nodded, though I could see the hesitation in his eyes. He gave a tight smile. "Yeah, sure. Take care, Rena."

He turned and left, and the second the door closed behind him, Rena spun around to face me. "What the hell was that about?"

I didn’t back down. "I don’t like the way he was looking at you."

Rena's eyebrows shot up. "He’s my childhood friend, Filip. You don’t have to get all territorial."

"It’s not about being territorial. I don’t trust him. I know how men like him think."

She stared at me, frustration clear on her face. "You’re being ridiculous. Friend is harmless. He’s part of my past. You don’t need to get jealous."

I stepped closer to her, my voice low but firm. "I’m not jealous, Rena. I’m just not going to let anyone come between us."

She sighed, her eyes softening a bit. "Filip, no one is trying to come between us. You don’t have to protect me from every man I know."

I pulled her close, my hands gripping her waist possessively. "I just want to make sure you know that you’re mine. And no one else’s."

Rena looked up at me, her eyes searching mine. "I do know that, Filip. But you need to trust me. Friend is just a friend, nothing more."

I nodded, though the jealousy still simmered beneath the surface. I had her now, but the thought of someone else, even an old friend, getting too close to her was enough to set me on edge. I wouldn’t let anyone take her from me. Ever.
