Chapter 45: The Confession

Filip's POV

The sound of the waves crashing softly against the shore filled the quiet night. Rena was sitting by the water, her arms wrapped around her knees, staring out into the endless ocean. The moonlight cast a soft glow on her, making her look almost ethereal. I knew this moment had been coming for a long time, and I couldn't hold back anymore. I had to tell her how I really felt, even if it terrified me.

I took a deep breath, my heart pounding as I approached her. "Rena," I said softly, sitting down beside her. She didn't turn to look at me but kept her gaze fixed on the horizon. "There's something I need to say."

She remained silent, but I could feel the tension in the air between us. I swallowed hard, gathering my thoughts.

"I know I've made mistakes," I began, my voice low but steady. "I wasn't ready to be a father back then. I didn't know how to handle the responsibility, and I let my fear and selfishness get in the way of what really mattered-you and Fil. But I'm not that man anymore."

Rena finally looked at me, her eyes filled with questions, uncertainty clouding her gaze.

"I've changed," I continued, my voice breaking slightly. "I'm ready now. I have more power, more strength to protect you and Fil. I'm not afraid anymore. I love you, Rena. I've always loved you. That feeling never went away, no matter how much I tried to push it down or hide it. And I know I've hurt you in the past, but I need you to know that my love for you has never been erased."

She blinked, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. I could see the conflict in her expression-the love she still held for me and the fear of getting hurt again.

"I don't want to lose you," I whispered. "I want to be the man you deserve, the father Fil deserves. I'll spend the rest of my life proving that to you, if you'll let me."

Rena's POV

Hearing Filip's words broke something inside of me, something I had been holding back for so long. The truth was, I had never stopped loving him either. No matter how much pain he had caused, no matter how much I had tried to distance myself, that love had always been there, buried beneath the layers of hurt and fear.

Tears welled up in my eyes, spilling over before I could stop them. "Filip..." I started, my voice trembling. I didn't know what to say. Part of me wanted to run, to protect myself from the possibility of being hurt again. But another part of me, the part that had loved him all these years, was desperate to believe in him.

"I love you too," I whispered, finally allowing myself to admit it. "I never stopped. But I'm scared, Filip. I'm so scared. You hurt me before, and I don't know if I can survive that again."

He reached for my hand, his grip gentle but firm. "I know you're scared," he said softly, his eyes filled with regret. "And I'm sorry for everything I've done. But I swear to you, Rena, I'm different now. I'm ready to be the man you need, the father Fil needs. I will never hurt you again."

I wanted to believe him. Every part of me ached to believe that this time, things would be different. But the wounds from our past were still fresh, still raw. "How can I trust you?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

Filip looked at me, his expression earnest. "You don't have to trust me all at once. I'll earn it back, little by little, day by day. I'll be there for you, for Fil, no matter what it takes. I'll never let you feel alone or abandoned again. I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere."

I wiped at the tears that streamed down my face, my heart torn between hope and fear. "I want to believe you, Filip. I really do. But... what if things go wrong again?"

"They won't," he said, his voice steady and full of conviction. "I won't let them. You and Fil are my world now. I'll protect you both, no matter what. I have the strength now that I didn't have before. I'll never let anything come between us again."

I looked into his eyes, seeing the sincerity, the vulnerability there. He wasn't the same man he had been before. He had changed, and for the first time in a long time, I allowed myself to believe that maybe, just maybe, he could be the man I had always wanted him to be.

I leaned into him, resting my head on his shoulder as the tears continued to fall. "I'm afraid, Filip," I confessed, my voice shaking. "But I still love you.
