Chapter 3: The Valentine's Day

Filip's POV

Valentine's Day was just around the corner, and with it came a flurry of excitement that seemed to electrify the school. Brightly colored decorations lined the hallways, and couples exchanged flowers and heartfelt notes, the air heavy with romance. I felt a mix of anxiety and determination as I contemplated how to approach Rena again. I needed to ask her to the dance, to make her understand that I was serious about wanting to get to know her.

Each day felt like a battle to get through without seeing her, and each time I did, it was a reminder of how much I wanted her in my life. But every time I tried to reach out, she pulled away. I couldn't let that discourage me; I just needed to find a way to connect with her.

As I walked through the halls, my mind was set on a plan. I would ask her to the Valentine's dance, and this time, I would make it special. I envisioned how her face would light up, how she would finally see me beyond the surface.

But as I turned the corner, my heart sank. There stood Jason, leaning casually against a locker with his friends, a smirk plastered across his face as he caught sight of me. Jason was everything I wasn't: confident, charming, and always the center of attention. He was the kind of guy who had girls swooning over him, and it made my blood boil.

"Hey, Filip!" he called out, his tone dripping with mock friendliness. "You still trying to get Rena's attention? Good luck with that, man."

I clenched my jaw, refusing to let him get under my skin. "What do you want, Jason?" I asked, keeping my voice steady.

He pushed off the locker and sauntered toward me, his friends snickering behind him. "Just looking out for you, buddy. Rena's way out of your league. You think she's going to dance with a guy like you?"

"Why do you care?" I shot back, my anger simmering. "You have enough girls fawning over you as it is."

"Just trying to spare you the embarrassment," he said with a grin. "But hey, if you want to keep trying, go ahead. I'll just be waiting in the wings."

I felt a surge of determination, anger fueling my resolve. "I'm not giving up on her, Jason. She deserves someone who really wants to be with her, not just someone looking for a trophy."

His smile faltered for a moment, and I saw a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. "You really think you stand a chance? She's smart, funny, and beautiful. You? You're just the quiet guy in the back of the class. You think she's going to choose you over someone like me?"

"Maybe she will," I said, my voice unwavering. "I'm not giving up."

With that, I turned and walked away, feeling the weight of Jason's gaze on my back. I wouldn't let him intimidate me. If anything, his words fueled my desire to show Rena that I was worth her time. I needed a plan, a way to make my intentions clear without scaring her off.

---

The days leading up to Valentine's Day dragged on, and I kept thinking of different ways to ask Rena to the dance. I considered buying her flowers, writing her a note, or even simply confessing my feelings directly. But each time I spotted her in the halls, she seemed to evade me, ducking into classrooms or slipping away with her friends.

It was frustrating, but I was relentless. I made it my mission to find her after school, hoping that today would be different.

As the final bell rang, I positioned myself near her locker, heart racing as I rehearsed what I wanted to say. The hallway was bustling with students, the excitement of Valentine's Day palpable in the air. I watched as Rena chatted with Honey and Renreal, her smile brightening the entire space. I took a deep breath, ready to approach her, when suddenly, I saw Jason walking toward her, confidence radiating from him like a beacon.

"Hey, Rena!" he called out, flashing that infuriating grin of his. "You got any plans for the dance?"

I felt a rush of protectiveness. If he was planning to sweep her off her feet, I couldn't let that happen.

Rena paused, looking momentarily taken aback. "Uh, I'm not sure yet," she replied cautiously.

I stepped forward, adrenaline pumping through my veins. "Rena!" I called, trying to sound casual but feeling the tension in my throat.

She turned to me, her expression surprised but guarded. "Oh, hey, Filip."

"Uh, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked, hoping I didn't sound as desperate as I felt.

Jason, not one to be ignored, chimed in, "Come on, Rena, let's talk about the dance. I've got some great ideas for it."

I felt my stomach twist. "Actually, I wanted to ask Rena something important," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

Rena glanced between us, uncertainty flashing in her eyes. "Um, okay..." she said slowly, taking a small step toward me. But before she could say anything more, Jason stepped in front of her, blocking my path.

"Don't worry about him, Rena. Let's go grab some snacks and talk about how fun the dance will be," he insisted, flashing a charming smile that made my blood boil.

"Jason, I-" Rena began, but he cut her off.

"C'mon! You don't want to miss out on the best ideas for the dance, do you?"

The tension was palpable as I watched Rena's internal struggle. I wanted to scream, to pull her away from him and make my intentions clear. But I knew I had to be careful. The last thing I wanted was to push her further away.

"Rena," I said, my voice low but firm, "I really want to talk to you."

Jason scoffed, crossing his arms. "Looks like she's busy with someone who actually knows how to have a good time."

Before I could respond, Rena turned to Jason, her expression a mix of annoyance and exasperation. "Jason, I really don't want to talk about the dance right now. Can you give me a minute?"

I felt a rush of hope at her words. Maybe she really wanted to hear what I had to say.

"See? She wants to talk to me," I said, trying to keep my voice light despite the tension. "So why don't you let us have a moment?"

Jason's smile faded, replaced by annoyance. "Fine. But don't take too long. You might miss out on something important." With that, he walked off, throwing a glance back at Rena that was laced with a challenge.

As soon as he was out of earshot, I stepped closer to Rena, my heart pounding. "Can we talk?" I asked, my voice softening.

She looked at me, uncertainty still lingering in her eyes, but there was a spark of curiosity that I hoped to ignite. "Okay," she said, her tone cautious.

I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. This was it-the chance I had been waiting for. "I wanted to ask you if you'd go to the Valentine's dance with me."

Rena's eyes widened slightly, and for a heartbeat, I thought I saw a flicker of surprise and interest in her gaze. "I... I don't know, Filip. I mean, there's a lot going on..."

"Just think about it," I pressed, my heart racing. "I really want to show you that we could have a great time together. You deserve to enjoy yourself, and I want to be the one to take you."

She bit her lip, the weight of my words hanging in the air. "I'll think about it, okay?"

I nodded, feeling a mix of hope and uncertainty. "That's all I'm asking."

As she walked away, I felt the heat of determination burning inside me. I wouldn't let Jason-or anything else-get in my way. I would fight for Rena, and I was determined to make her see that I was worth the chance.

Valentine's Day was just around the corner, and I had a plan. I would win her heart, even if it meant facing Jason and whatever else lay ahead.
