Legolas stood outside his room, staring at the door in front him. He couldn't move, every part of him ached and just wanted to give up. Yet, there wasn't a physical scratch on him, nothing to cause him physical pain.

Aragorn turned down the hall, stopping as he saw Legolas standing outside the door to his and Neahlara's room. He was there this morning, and he wasn't sure if Legolas had moved at all during the day. Walking up behind him, Aragorn softly set his hand on his shoulder. Legolas turned towards him. Aragorn felt sick, seeing his friend looking so deathly pale and seemingly no will to live. "Would you like to go get food with me?" Aragorn asked softly. Legolas blinked looking form the door to Aragorn, chalking his head.

Aragorn dropped his hand from his shoulder, giving a small nod and turned to leave Legolas. He wasn't sure what he could do to help his friend. He wasn't sure if there was a way to help his friend, to give him hope again. Not when his hope was taken from him the way it was.

Legolas watched as Aragorn left, turning back to the door. Slowly grabbing the handle of the door and opening it. Standing outside the door and looking in, it was empty. So empty, a dress laid across the bed, he wasn't sure where it came from since it wasn't there the day they left. Her travel bag sat against the wall next to the bed, his bag sitting next to hers.

Stepping into the room, he glanced around finding the small leather pouch still on the desk to the side of the room. Slowly making his way towards the desk and picking up the leather pouch. Opening it, dropped the two gold rings into his palm. Taking one of them, the smaller one, and slipping it onto his right pinky. Then taking the other one and slipping it onto his ring finger above his engagement ring on his left hand.

A tear slipping down his check as the cold metal rested against his skin, only reminding him of the cold he felt throughout his body. Setting the pouch down, noticing a folded piece of parchment sitting up against the wall. Across the front of it, in beautiful writing, Princling. He felt the bile rise in the back of his throat as he reached for the letter. His hand shaking as he picked it up, his heart racing as he slowly unfolded the letter.

Legolas,

Oh I hope you never get this. That after the battle I can come back and burn it before you see it. You are probably wondering when I wrote this and to be honest I couldn't sleep. So I got up and started to write, while you lay asleep in our bed. I need you to know, I love you, Legolas.

And if you are reading this then something happened to me during the battle. I Ned you to know I wasn't scared, I was prepared to do whatever was needed to keep everyone to safe. To give Frodo and Sam time to destroy the ring. So everyone could have a fresh new beginning. You still have a chance at a new beginning Legolas, do not waste it because I am gone.

I want you to keep going, keep living, loving. Do not shut the world out, your friends out. Explore the world like we spoke of, journey through Fangorn Forest. Please, do not let your heartbreak, live a long life. For me, for you. You are never alone, Legolas. I will always be by your side. Thank you for teaching me to love, to open up to the world again.

I love you, Legolas Greenleaf.

For ever yours, Lara.

Flipping the letter over, a small note was written on the back. Inside my desk drawer is a letter, give it to Lythandir. To the elves, and for you. They are my last command as Queen. Legolas more than anything wanted to crumble the letter up and burn it. Anger that he never felt before bubbled inside of him, but he couldn't direct it anywhere. So it sat and turned to himself, why couldn't he have stayed by her side. Why wasn't he there to protect her when she needed him most. Why did he fail her?

Setting the letter down on the desk, his body shaking. Closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, trying to calm his mind. Prying his eyes open, the room was blurry with fresh tears. Blinking them away, he opened the desk drawer, finding another letter. Opening it up and glancing over the letter.

To all,

If something were to happen to me, this is my last command. Stay in Gondor, Aragorn will protect you and help you with anything you may need after the rest of the elves pass to the Gray Havens. Give time to heal and grieve the ones lost in these horrid battles against Sauron. After, I request that Legolas Greenleaf will be crowned the High King of Elves. He will travel to find a new home for all and rebuild a new future for the ones that stayed. Trust him as you have trusted me this past year.

I wish you all the best of luck, High Queen Naehlara.

Legolas stood still his grip tightening against the parchment. She in trusted him with her people, and he wasn't even sure he could take care of himself or if he wanted too. He tossed the letter onto the next turning away from the desk and leaving the room. He didn't know where he was going, but he knew he needed to get out of there. Out of there room, he needed room to breath.

He stormed his way through Minas Tirith, getting to the lower levels and out into the Pelenor Fields. He froze as the moon hit his skin, bringing a small sense of warmth. Looking up to the stars flashes of his mother, Tauriel and Naehlara came to him. A scream tore through him as he dropped to his knees, hitting the ground with his fists until they began to bleed.

Throughout the city of Minas Tirith Legolas scream could be heard. Aragorn glanced to Gimli and Gandalf who sat across from him at the table. The three stood from the table quickly running through the city. Aragorn was first to make it to the Pelenor Fields, finding Legolas on the ground holding his head in his hands as he sat unnaturally still. "Legolas, please. Talk to me. I am here for you." Aragorn whispered, setting his hand on his shoulder.

Legolas didn't move not even a little bit. "She's gone." Legolas whispered after a moment of silence, lifting his head from his hands and looking up to the stars. In that moment, he realized what he needed to do. What the elves needed him to do. Wipping the tears from his face, he stood shaking off Aragorn's hand. "Let us head back in to the city." He stated, his voice sounded far away and detached.

He steeled himself in that moment, closing his heart and ignoring the pain that raked his body. For the first time he understood his father. His pain, his reasoning for never leaving the kingdom of Mirkwood and refusing to fight others battles. He understood the wishing to move on but not being able to in respect of their love's last wish.
