Elijah Mikaelson surveyed the town of Mystic Falls with only slight distaste. It seems only fitting that the newest doppelganger– well, doppelgangers –would be born in the very town where he and his family had been turned into vampires. It fits the cycle of misery quite well. And that wasn't even getting into the topic of how one of them was his soulmate.

His phone ringing cut off whatever thoughts were sure to follow that particular topic. "Hello," he greeted.

"Hey, Elijah." A soft voice rang from the other end of the line; so much for avoiding the soulmate topic.

"Emalyn." He responded, a slight smile coming to his face. "How, pray tell, did you get my number?"

"Oh, I bribed Luka," Emalyn responded rather cheerily.

"And I suppose there is a reason you called." He assumed. Not that he minded hearing the sound of her voice. God, he really had to stop thinking like that.

"Oh, yeah!" She exclaimed as if she had forgotten her reason for this. "So, I did something last night." She explained in the vaguest terms possible.

"Am I to assume that this something caused a mess you need help cleaning up?" He asked.

"You have so little faith in me." Emalyn accused, a joking tone in her voice.

"That doesn't answer my question," Elijah commented, amusement seeping into his tone as well. This young woman seemed to already be having an effect on him. Despite this, he remained determined not to let unwarranted emotions get in the way.

"Well, I wouldn't call it a mess." She told him. "It's just a bit of finishing up."

Rightly curious now, Elijah sighed before he spoke again, "And what actions prompted this?" He asked.

"I may or may not have told Jenna the truth about everything," Emalyn admitted. That was surprising to hear. From what he had gathered, the Gilbert twins appeared to try to keep the circle of knowledge closed off. But it wasn't necessarily a bad thing that Ms. Sommers knew. In fact, it might do her well in the future.

"And what role do I play in this?"

"Well, she's understandably freaked, and I was hoping that you could help her see that it's not all that bad." She hesitated for a moment before hastening to add the next bit. "If it's not too much to ask." Elijah smiled slightly. If it were anyone else, he would have said that it was not his duty to perform such tasks. But hearing the hopeful tone of voice and picturing her sparkling doe eyes, he couldn't find it in himself to decline her request.

"I'll pick you both up in half an hour."

"Are you sure that this is a good idea?" Jenna asked again. She was still reasonably freaked out about all the information that had been coming her way over the past hours. Maybe telling her that her guide was one of the oldest vampires in existence wasn't a good idea on Lyn's part. But she had wanted Jenna to be aware of what she was walking into.
