"Thanks for letting me invite Caroline," Lyn said as she walked back into the house, carrying a plate of ribs she and Ric had just finished making. "She could use a day of distraction." Caroline had been forced to break up with Matt for his own safety, but that didn't mean she felt any better about it.
"Of course, it's the least I could do, seeing as you're cooking for my barbecue," Jenna said with a laugh. "Besides, Caroline is not the plus one I'm worried about." She turned to Elena. "Why is Damon coming?"
"Because Alaric is a pity-taker," Elena answered. "Come on, Jenna, be nice."
"I'll be nice when Damon learns to keep his paws off you." Jenna countered.
"More like his fangs," Lyn muttered, and Elena shot her look.
"A-ha! Good news, I found the shot glasses!" Mason announced, entering the room with shot glasses and a matching bottle of expensive alcohol.
"That would be my exit," Elena announced.
"You and me both, sister." Lyn agreed, following Elena out of the kitchen. They stepped into the foyer right as Damon entered the house. Elena rolled her eyes distastefully before shoving her way past him and onto the porch.
"So, how's that 'winning back her friendship' thing going?" Lyn asked rhetorically, smirking at the older Salvatore, who was staring at the door her sister had just walked out of.
"It leaves much to be desired." He responded, turning back to Lyn. "But I have a feeling that winning back your friendship will be a lot easier."
"And why's that?" Damon's response to her question was to hold out a paper bag, urging her to take it. Lyn eyed the bag suspiciously but took it nonetheless. Lyn sifted through the tissue paper to get to what was at the bottom of the bag. When she saw it, her eyes lit up. A gorgeous, authentic, light blue Birkin bag. "Oh, my god. Oh, my god." She repeated. Damon smirked at her reaction and then continued into the kitchen without another word.
After she got over her shock, Lyn placed her new bag in a cubby in her closet. She was walking down the stairs when she ran into Caroline, who was clutching a bowl of chips. "Hey. I was just about to come look for you. Whatcha up to?"
"Oh, I was just looking for you and Elena," Caroline told her.
"Well, Elena's on the porch. We could join her?" Lyn suggested. Caroline nodded, and they exited out of the front door. Elena was sitting on a porch chair, talking on the phone with someone, presumably Stefan.
"Call me when you can." She said as soon as she saw Lyn and Caroline.
"Is that Stefan?" Caroline asked, moving to sit in the armchair opposite of Elena.
"Yeah, he hasn't called me back." She informed them. "I'm trying to decide if I should be worried or not." She frowned a bit, and Lyn snuck a chip from the bowl Caroline was holding.
