Lyn returned from her run to find Elena sitting on the porch swing, tapping her pen against her diary. Jenna was also there, sipping on a coffee and listening to Elena talk. "Hey," Lyn greeted, walking up the steps onto the porch.
"Hi," Jenna said, and Elena gave a small smile before turning back to Jenna.
"I was wondering. You said you would do some digging on them, Mom and Dad...the adoption," Elena said hopefully, and Lyn snapped her eyes to where her aunt was smiling slightly.
"Right."
"So did you? Dig?" Elena wondered.
"Why don't the two of you come inside?" Lyn and Elena shared a look and followed their aunt inside the house and over to the table. "Your dad kept everything from his medical practice." Jenna explained, "Records, logs, old appointment books. I found an entry from the night the two of you were born. Patient and a birth date." The girls' eyes both widened, and they leaned over each of Jenna's shoulders to get a look at the notebook she was holding "Isobel Peterson."
"Do you think that's her real name?" Elena wondered.
"I doubt it," Lyn commented. "Most runaways use a fake name."
"Lyn's right. A pregnant teenage runaway would probably not keep the same name. First name, maybe?" Jenna considered. "But where'd she get Peterson? Classmate? Best friend? So, I binged it." Jenna opened Bing on her computer and began to type. "I searched for all the Petersons in this area born in the same year as Isobel; found three." Three results popped up on the computer. "Two men... and a woman. Trudie, who lived in Grove Hill, Virginia."
"That's not far from here." Elena realized.
"Watch this." Jenna typed in the high school, and a few pictures appeared. She clicked on one of them, and a school memorabilia collage came up on the screen. On this collage was a Polaroid picture of two teenagers labeled Trudie Peterson and Isobel Flemming.
"Isobel." Elena gasped out.
"She was a cheerleader," Lyn mentioned, smiling with her sister and her aunt.
"Trudie still lives there," Jenna told them and handed Elena a slip of paper. "This is her address."
"What about Isobel?" Elena asked.
"I couldn't find anything about her," Jenna admitted. The girls moved to sit down, and Jenna seemed to be hesitating to tell them something. She flicked her eyes between them before speaking.
"Listen, there's something else." She said, looking at her nieces, who were still smiling at the slip of paper. "Mr. Saltzman, Ric, his wife was from around here, and her name was also Isobel."
"Wait, 'was as in..." Lyn trailed off.
"She died." Jenna regrettably told them.
