"Thanks for coming, Ric

"Thanks for coming, Ric." Damon greeted him as he led him into the boarding house. "Can I get you something to drink? Coffee, bourbon? Bourbon in your coffee?"

"Lyn mentioned you needed my help," Ric said as he stepped further into the parlor.

"Yeah, we were hoping you could help shed some light on the Lockwood family," Stefan explained from where he was perched on the couch next to Elena. Lyn sat beside her sister, boredly flipping through a magazine she had found lying around.

"Now, why would I know anything about the Lockwoods?" Ric questioned as he settled into the couch.

"You wouldn't," Damon said. "But you dead-not-dead vampire wife might."

"Isobel's research from when you were at Duke together," Elena provided.

"You said that she had spent years researching this town." Stefan elaborated.

"Isobel's research here in Mystic Falls was rooted in folklore and legends, but at the time, I thought much of which was fiction," Ric explained.

"Like that amazing vampire story!" Damon countered sarcastically.

"Other than vampires, what else?" Elena questioned, leaning forward slightly.

"The lycanthrope," Ric told them.

"No way! Werewolves!" Lyn exclaimed excitedly, practically shooting up from her seat. The rest of them shared confused looks at this information.

"No way. Impossible. Way to Lon Chaney," Damon denied.

"Is it?" Stefan challenged.

"I've been on this planet one hundred and sixty some odd years, never came across one. If werewolves exist, where the hell are they?" Damon reasoned, raising his eyebrows in disbelief.

"Well, why do you suspect the Lockwoods?" Ric asked, looking at them all strangely.

"Because vervain didn't affect the mayor on Founder's Day, but the Gilbert device did." Damon provided. "And it affected his son, Tyler."

"And at the school carnival, his uncle Mason exhibited inhuman behavior when he fought with one of the carnival's workers," Stefan explained. "It suggests some sort of a supernatural entity.

"We were hoping that Isobel's research could help us figure out what it is," Elena told him.

"Well, all her things are still at Duke. I mean, her office is still there." Ric admitted. "She's technically still missing." He looked a bit uncomfortable, and Lyn went to say something, but Damon beat her to the punch

"So, can we get access to it?" He asked. Ric seemed to look even more uncomfortable at the thought of returning to see Isobel's stuff, but Damon was persistent. "Ric, we need to know what we are dealing with. If this wolfman thing is true, I've seen enough movies to know it's not good. It means Mason Lockwood is a real-life Lon Chaney, and that little Tyler punk may just very well be Lon Chaney junior, which means Bella Lugosi, meaning me, is totally screwed."
