The ringing of her phone pulled Lyn from her restful state. She hadn't actually been asleep, but she had been curled up in bed with her eyes closed and by her standards, that was good enough. Her eyes adjusted to the morning sun beaming in through her window. Once she felt coherent enough to be a part of the real world, she stretched her arm over to her nightstand and grabbed her phone. A quick glance at the screen confirmed her suspicions that her sister had been the one calling her.
"Hey, Lena," Lyn greeted, her voice softer than usual due to exhaustion.
"Lyn!" There was a sigh of relief that followed from her sister's voice. "I was so worried,"
"Shit! I totally forgot to call you," Lyn groaned. She had meant to call her sister to let her know that she was okay and check in on if the wolves had gone after her too. Even with those plans, she had gotten whisked away in her tears and guilt of the previous night. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Stefan's mad at me, but I'm fine."
"Good." Lyn now felt relief too. "Why's he mad at you?"
"He found out the truth about our deal with Elijah," Elena admitted guiltily. They–well, Elena–hadn't wanted to withhold that information from the Salvatore brothers but given their fierce loyalty to Elena they knew it wouldn't end well. Meaning that either they would drag them to safety kicking and screaming or they would offer Lyn up on a silver platter in order to keep Elena safe. Elena hadn't said that part when she was explaining why they weren't going to tell Stefan and Damon, but she didn't have to.+
"Damn." Lyn commented, fiddling with the corner of her comforter.
"Um..." Elena began, clearly hesitant to breach the topic on her mind. "Ric called."
Lyn stiffened a bit. "Did he now?"
"He told me what happened with the werewolves," Lyn didn't know how to respond to her sister's admittance so she decided not to and let awkward silence fill the connection. "...how are you doing?"
"Jim dandy," Lyn mumbled.
"Lyn, honestly, how are you doing?" Elena pleaded with her sister.
"Honestly? I don't know." Lyn finally told Elena. "One second I feel angry and the next I feel like the worst person on the planet,"
"You're nowhere near the worst person on the planet," Elena told her, tone comforting and gentle.
"I mean, we do hang out with Stefan and Damon, so I guess you have a point," Elena chuckled softly from the other end of the phone. That was what told Lyn she wasn't succeeding in being even remotely convincing. If things were normal, Elena would have protested her passing judgment on Stefan and Damon's actions. If Elena was taking amusement in that... she must have sounded worse than she thought.
There was a knock on her door. "Lyn, you up?" Jenna's voice called out to her.
"I gotta go, Elena," Lyn told her sister. "I'll talk to you later,"
