Emalyn tossed and turned in her bed, trying and failing to find a comfortable position. This wasn't a new problem, it was a constant struggle. She had always had insomnia but ever since her parents died, she just couldn't sleep. She would lay awake in the dead of the night just staring at the ceiling. On the rare occasions when she did sleep, nightmares plagued her mind. It was always the same one. She was in the car as it went over Wickery Bridge and as the water filled the car it would all go dark before she woke up gasping for air as if the water was actually filling her lungs. She knew it must have been a thousand times worse for Elena who had actually been in the car.

Heavy panting from her bathroom prompted her to get up right as Elena opened the door to her bedroom. "Hey, Lena, you okay?" Elena didn't answer, only shook her head while running a hand through her hair. Lyn got up and walked over to her panicking sister. She put her hand on top of Elena's and led her over to her room closing the door and sitting on Elena's bed next to her. Elena kicked off her shoes and got up closing the window. She turned back to her sister right as they heard someone speak.

"Elena." It was Stefan. Elena turned to him, terrified and grabbed Lyn's hand running to the door. Stefan sped over there and kept the door shut with his hand. Elena whimpered as she held her sisters hand tight. "I would never hurt you." Stefan stressed. "You're safe with me."

"Great way of showing it, Edward Cullen!" Lyn cried squeezing Elena's hand in reassurance.

"All those animal attacks, those people who died?" Elena cried out in terror.

"No. That was Damon."

"Damon?" Elena asked, still panting.

"Yes. I don't drink human blood, that's not how I chose to survive, I will explain everything to both of you, but I beg you, do not tell anybody." Lyn nodded but Elena looked unconvinced.

"How could you ask me that?" She choked out.

"Because knowing this is dangerous, for so many reasons." Stefan stressed. "You can hate me, but I need you to trust me."

"Just go." Elena whispered. "Just go, please, go. If you mean me no harm then you'll go"

"I never wanted this." Stefan said, sounding heartbroken which he probably was, Lyn could tell he truly cared for Elena. He then took his hand off the door and allowed the girls to open it. Elena turned to open it, but when she turned around Stefan was gone. Elena raced over to the window to close and lock it.

"Do you want to stay in my room tonight?" Lyn asked gently and Elena nodded.

The morning sun rose and Elena awoke, her body still tangled in Emmalyn's arms. Lyn had been awake all night, like usual. "Lyn. Lyn are you awake?"

"Always." Lyn responded, getting out of bed and shaking herself off a bit.

"We need to talk to Stefan." Elena decided, pulling the covers off of herself and shivering when a draft came through.
