Lyn sighed as she pulled on a leather jacket. She had showered for longer than she usually did. She wanted the patter of the water to drown out the sickening sound of her neck snapping that had been playing on repeat since she got up. Shaking off those thoughts, Lyn made her way downstairs and into the kitchen.
When she arrived, she saw a plate of pancakes waiting in her spot at the dining room table. She smiled at the sight of her brother, who was currently flipping his own pancake on a frying pan. She slid into her spot with ease. Jeremy had slept in her bed this past night and had practically clung to her, not leaving her side until she groggily woke up. He turned around with his own plate of food and smiled upon the sight of her. "Hey," He greeted.
"Hey," Lyn responded, taking a bite of the pancake and smiling. Her brother's cooking skills had far exceeded her expectations. "I'm officially impressed." She said after swallowing her food. Jeremy smiled, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. Lyn looked at him sympathetically and reached out to squeeze his hand. "I'm okay, Jer. Really."
"I know. It's just... you died, Lyn. And I keep worrying that if I leave for even a moment, you're not gonna be here when I get back." Lyn smiled, touched by his worry for her. She took his hand and placed it over her heart.
"I'm here. I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere." His smile stretched a bit wider at that, and they both turned back to their food. Finally, Lyn convinced Jeremy that she would be fine and he should get to school.
Lyn was collecting her vervain when her phone started to ring. She turned around and slid off her gardening gloves, looking to see who was calling. She smiled at the sight of Caroline's name flashing on the screen. "Hey, Care."
"Lyn?" Caroline's voice was panicked.
"Are you okay?" Lyn immediately asked at the tone of voice.
"Lyn, something happened, and I don't know what to do. I feel weird, and I'm scared and–"
"Whoa. Take a deep breath, Caroline." She instructed and listened as she heard Caroline inhale. "Good. Now tell me what happened," she said gently.
"Elena came by, but she said her name was Katherine." Lyn inhaled sharply in fear.
"Caroline, stay right there. I'm coming over now." Lyn grabbed her keys and raced out of the house, desperate to get to her best friend.

Lyn was practically running down the hospital hallways. "Matt!" She said immediately upon sight of the boy. "Were you with Caroline?" She asked, trying to keep her tone neutral. Matt looked at her strangely, proving that she had not succeeded in sounding anywhere near calm.
"Yeah." He replied, thankfully disregarding her strange behavior. "She's acting weird, though. So, I think I'm going to come back later." Lyn nodded and glanced down at the hall but was unable to catch sight of Caroline.
