"Please don't tell Juliet," I begged Ash, gently letting Jade down.
"Do you realize how wrong this id, Andy?" he asked me.
I looked at my feet.
"It's one thing that you're cheating but, it's another that it's with her little sister," Ashley scolded.
He turned to Jade, "And you, Jade. You agreed to it. You-"
"Hey," I cut him off, ''don't you even dare bring her into this."
I pushed the girl I loved behind me.
Wait, you love her?
Of course I love her.
Are you sure?
I don't know, am I?
Do you love her?
Yes, I love Jade. I do. I love her.
"She's half of this fucking equation," Ashley snapped.
"You've already yelled at her enough. You're not her father, Ashley," I replied angrily, pushing Ashley back.
He stepped back up to me, in my face, "But, I'm her best friend, Andy. All I care about is her well-being."
"Get out of my fucking face," I aggressively responded through gritted teeth.
Ashley didn't move a muscle.
"I said," I repeated, pushing Ashley back," get out of my fucking face."
"Andy," Jade whispered, grabbing my arm.
I instantly calmed as her small hand wrapped around my bicep. My body relaxed at her touch and she must've felt it. She sighed in relief and looked at Ashley.
"You too, Ashley. Calm down. Andy's right, you're not my father. I understand that you love me and you just want what's best, but I'm not perfect. I'm gonna screw up sometimes. I haven't made all my mistakes yet, Ash. You have to understand that you can't prevent me from making them. I'll never be perfect and there's nothing you can do that's gonna change that. I know you want to protect me from all the bad things. You can't, though, and you have to accept that. Ashley, I love you, I do. You have helped me in so many ways and I do love you, Ashley. I understand that you can't protect me from everything and make sure that my future mistakes never happen. Now all that's left is you. All that we can do now is let you accept it," Jade told him.
Ashley nodded and Jade walked to Ashley, pulling him into her arms, hugging him tightly.
"Thank you," she whispered in his ear. He smiled and kissed her forehead.
I clenched my fists as Ashley pulled away.
"Look guys, I'll keep your little secret but, I want you both to know, this is very, very wrong," Ashley said.
Jade smiled at him and I thanked him.
He left the room and Jade sighed and flung herself onto the bed.
"You know, Andy, he's right. This is wrong," she said.
"I know, Jade. I know, but, let me tell you, if you call me at four a.m. too sad to even say hello, I will listen to your silence until you fall asleep. If you need to cry, I will not wipe your tears away because you are only human and sometimes tears are as close to laughter as you can get, and that's okay. If you get sleepy, I will let you drool on my arm and I won't laugh at you if you snore to loud. If you need to yell so hard that your voice cracks and your knees fail, I will hold you up and yell with you. If you get so angry you punch your hands red, I will ice your knuckles and tell you that wounds heal both inside and out, and that just like the cold that is harsh and burning, I will always be the warmth to soothe you and make you feel better. I will love you," I said, taking her hands in mine.
She nodded and chuckled a little, "Get that off Google, too?"
I rolled my eyes before kissing her forehead and pushing her shoulder gently. She laid back on the bed, and I pulled the covers over her.
She smiled up at me and I pecked her lips before pulling on some jeans and my jacket.
Jade furrowed her eyebrows, "Going to save the world, Batman?"
"I'm just going out for a drive, Jade. I'll be here when you wake up. Don't worry, go to sleep," I assured her, kissing her forehead once again.
"Hey Andy," she said as I was almost out the door.
"Yes, beautiful?" I asked.
"Okay, one, can I have a real kiss, and two, be careful, please," she yawned.
I nodded and walked over, kissing her lips, letting it last for a few seconds before pulling away.
"Three," she whispered, "I love you."
I pecked her lips again before saying, "I love you, too."
"Bye Batman," she said, a hint of sleepiness haunting her voice.
"Bye Batgirl," I smiled.
