"Andy, if you do not stop making that fucking face at me," I said through gritted teeth.
He groaned and whined, "I wanted to win."
"You'll never win. I'm the Nerf Queen."
Andy and I had been acting like five year olds for the last three hours. Jake had made the mistake of buying us Nerf guns. Andy and I were having wars and the first one to shoot the other wins. I was good at it, and to be honest, Andy sucked. I insisted that if I was going to be in a war, I was going to dress like it. Andy had laughed at me when I put war paint under my eyes, but it kind of seemed like I scared him.
Now, he stood across the room with a suction dart between his eyes. He was pouting; he'd only won once out of thirty-six wars. He was pathetic.
"Again?" he asked.
I sighed, "I'm tired, Andy."
He groaned and I shrugged off my jacket. He threw his gun on the sofa, along with the dart. "Go change, gorgeous."
I changed and returned to our bedroom. Andy laid in the bed in his pajamas he'd been wearing all day, scrolling through horror movies on Netflix.
"Andy, no please," I whined.
He looked over at me, "Why not?"
"I hate scary movies," I mumbled.
"I'll protect you," he smiled. "Come here."
I shook my head and stayed put as he clicked on A Nightmare on Elm Street.
"Babe, please, it's a classic."
"Andy, please."
"Jade, come on."
"No."
"Okay, how about Silence of the Lambs?"
"Noo, Andy. No horror."
"Baby, it's not real."
I didn't say anything.
"Insidious 2?"
"No."
"Cabin in the Woods?"
"Baby, please."
"Jade, listen honey, it's not real and none of this ever happened."
"Bullshit, Andy. Where do you think they get this stuff from?"
"Their minds, babe." He laughed a little.
"Andy, I really don't want to."
"Jade, I promise I'll cut it off if you get too scared."
"Andy, am I not making myself clear? I refuse to watch any fucking horror movies."
"Okay, okay, fine. We'll watch Fifty Shades of Grey then?"
"Hell no, the book scared you. Why do you want to watch the movie, babe? It's like porn."
"What if I like porn?" he asked me.
"Oh my God. Okay. If you like porn, you can watch it without me, okay?"
He laughed and I suggested, "The Interview? I never got to see it."
"Sure," he smiled and I crawled into bed with him. He started to play my movie and I could hear trucks and cars passing by outside, followed by loud voices and clicking noises.
Andy looked across the room and to his open window.
"Fuck," he cursed. I looked in the direction he was and saw black vans and photographers everywhere. I heard knocks on the doors and windows and Andy got up out of the bed and quickly yanked the curtains shut. He walked downstairs, leaving me there without an explanation. He was definitely pissed. I got up and followed him down the steps. Andy was shutting curtains and locking doors. I sighed stood on the edge of the steps, watching him march around, blocking out all the light.
"I'm sorry," he sighed.
I shook my head, "No, it's not your fault. They're just a bunch of low-life bastards."
"But, they wouldn't come for no reason. There must be some picture or something, Jade."
My eyes widened and I grabbed my phone off it's charger on the coffee table. I scrolled through my Twitter. A picture of Andy and I was everywhere.
"Babe," I beckoned Andy over. He walked over and cautiously looked at my phone. His eyes widened and he mumbled a few cuss words before coming to his senses.
"Jade, listen, we can't tell them," he told me.
I looked up at him, "No, Andy. Don't you think this is some sort of wake-up call? We clearly can't keep this a secret anymore. Andy, I love you, but, you need to open your eyes and look at what's happening. We got caught, okay? This isn't a secret anymore."
"Jade, you don't understand. I'll be the bad guy. I'll loose fans. I won't be able to go anywhere. I'm going to have all of Juliet's fans up my ass-"
"So this is all about you now?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. I could hear the cameras clicking and yelling outside of the house still.
He shook his head. "You didn't let me finish. I'm going to have a lot of shit to deal with but, you, Jade, are going to have a lot more. My fans won't like you. Juliet won't like you. Who's to say your parents won't hate you? People are going to be so mean to you, and I can't handle that. More importantly, can you? I just don't want you to go back down the wrong path again. People can be so damn mean, and as much as I want you to be able to ignore it, you're not going to be able to. I couldn't at first-"
"Exactly Andy. At first. I'll get through it," I argued.
"I know you will. Because you're my girl, and you're strong. You've been through a lot and I'm sure you'll eventually get through it. The problem is, how long will it take? And in that time it takes to push through, what decisions will you make? Will you go back to old coping ways? I don't know, and neither do you. Jade, I just can't take that risk because you don't know how much it kills me just to think about you hurting yourself and-"
"Andy, I, um, have to tell you something."
"Hm?"
"Do you remember a couple weeks ago, you know, when we broke up?"
He nodded and stared at me, waiting for me to continue. I looked down and stripped the bracelets from my wrist and slowly turned I over.
"I-I'm sorry," I stuttered as he looked down.
"God, this is my fault," he muttered.
I shook my head, 'No it's not."
He looked up at me. "It is, Jade. If I would've just listened to you..."
"Andy, stop. It's not your fau-"
I stopped and turned around. I heard a lock jiggling.
"What the hell is that?" I asked.
Andy looked over at the door. "They found my spare keys. Dammit. These fuckers just don't know when to stop. Go upstairs, hurry."
I rushed up the steps and Andy walked to the door and jerked it open. I heard him yelling, then the door slamming. I swallowed and heard someone clomping up the stairs.
"Andy?" I asked.
He sighed, "It's me. It's okay."
"Are they leaving?"
"I told them to get the fuck off my property and I called the police," he sighed. "It's okay."
"Andy, can we please just tell Juliet? Please? You promised me."
He sat down beside me on the bed and I heard sirens of police cars. Andy got up and looked out of the window.
"They're getting them to go," he told me. I heard a knock on the door and Andy kissed my forehead before walking downstairs. The door shut and I could hear Andy's voice.
"They were scaring my girlfriend," he said.
"Yes sir. It was a violation of property and it won't happen again, I promise," the cop said. I walked down the steps and joined Andy. He kissed my head and pulled me into his side. "Is everything okay?"
I nodded and looked at the police, "Don't make promises you can't keep."
"Jade, don't be rude," Andy scolded. I smiled at the cop a little, "I'm sorry."
He tipped his hat and walked outside. A camera flashed and I buried my face in Andy's shoulder. He sighed and we sat down on the couch. Andy pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"Jade, I did promise you and if you want to do this, do it," Andy told me. He offered me his phone and I hesitantly grabbed it. He grabbed my free hand. I dialed Juliet's number and put Andy's phone on speaker, staring at his wallpaper. It was me, lying on the couch, eating ice cream, flipping him off. I rolled my eyes and Juliet answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey J-Juliet," I said, nervously.
