Jade stood at the stove at the stove making eggs. I sat at the table watching her make breakfast.
"You know," I pointed out, the Aspirin finally starting to help my hangover, "I haven't had a kiss or seen those pretty blue eyes all morning."
She replied softly and quietly, "Oh."
I bit my lip and furrowed my eyebrows, "Are you okay, honey?"
She didn't answer me and I sighed. She dumped some eggs onto a plate and put a couple pieces of bacon on it. She sat it in front of me from behind me, squeezed my shoulder lightly, and returned to the stove. She started putting leftover bacon and biscuits into Tupperware containers and sat them in the fridge. She poured herself some coffee and went into the living room. I picked up my plate and found her looking in a mirror in the living room, lightly touching her face, wincing. I put my plate down and walked over to her, gently grabbing her chin and turning her face so I could see it.
"What the hell happened?" I gasped, staring wide-eyed at the bruise on her cheek.
She didn't say anything.
"Did someone hit you?" I asked frantically, examining the bruise. She slightly nodded and I let go, clenching my jaw.
"Who's ass am I kicking? Who did this to you?" I questioned angrily, grabbing my jacket and shrugging it on, getting ready to go hunt down whoever hurt my girl.
"I don't think it's humanly possible to kick your own ass..." Jade said softly.
I swallowed. "W-what?"
"Andy, I- you-"
"I did this?" I asked, dumbfounded.
She shifted on her feet. "You were drunk and-"
"Oh my God," I cut her off.
"I'm not-"
I cut my girlfriend off again. "I was drunk...and I hit you...I fucking hit you..."
"You were drunk. I'm-"
"That's no fucking excuse. I hit you. God, I'm I fucked up. I'm such an ass."
"Andy, I-"
I hit the wall in anger. "DAMMIT."
Jade reached up and touched my shoulder. I jerked away from her and she furrowed her eyebrows. "Andy, it's okay. I'm okay."
"It's not okay," I told her, sighing.
She grabbed my hand and I quickly released it. She brought her hand to her side and made it into a loose fist. I looked at the ground and mumbled, "I just don't want to hurt you."
"Andy..." she trailed off.
I looked up at her and she took a step near me. I watched her hand raise to my face. She cupped my cheek and ran her thumb over my cheek, grazing my lip ring. "You would never hurt me." Her voice was soft and warm as she spoke to me.
"I thought I wouldn't."
I hated this. I'd hurt Jade mentally many times and that was enough for me to want to just die. But now, I've hurt her physically too, which is a new low for me. I'm an asshole, but...this? Hitting a girl? More importantly, hitting my girlfriend? This just made me want to die and burn in Hell. Jade didn't deserve to be hit and I'm scared to ever hurt her again.
"So what's the plan?" Her eyebrows crinkled. "You're never going to touch me again to prevent yourself from hurting me, Andy?"
I shrugged. "I guess."
"That hurts worse than being hit. You being around me all the time, but never holding my hand, kissing me, holding me when I cry..."
"Jade..."
"Andy, babe, you can't do that."
"I don't want to hurt you again Jade."
"I understand that, but..." She ran her hand down my bare chest and wrapped her arms around me, nuzzling her face into my neck. "...don't."
I swallowed and sighed. I wrapped my arms around my girlfriend. I felt her warm skin press against mine as I pulled her closer to me. I kissed her head and rested my chin on her head. I felt her smile against my neck.
"I love you Jade and I'm sorry."
"It's okay," she whispered. "I love you."
