Jade's hand was cold in my own. Tears were rolling down my face while she had a smile on hers. "At least I get to die with someone I truly love by my side." She sighed.
"Stop," I choked out. "Stop saying that. You're not going anywhere Jade. Y-You can't leave me."
She looked over at me and I noticed how pale her skin was and how many tiny cuts littered her face. "You have to let go, Andy."
"Stop," I said again. I squeezed her hand. I was crying now and I figured it wouldn't be long until I broke down. This was horrifying to me. This exact scene only happened in my worst nightmares. "You're n-not leaving me."
I felt like a baby at the moment, not a man, but honestly, I didn't care. Jade looked outside and smiled, "It's a pretty day to die..."
"Stop it, Jade. Stop fucking saying that!" My voice cracked and I knew I was getting loud.
She shook her head, "Andy, baby, nothing lasts forever. I was going to go someday. "
"Not today," I muttered and before I knew it, she was slipping away again.
Her mom and dad walked out of the room. They couldn't stand to look at her. I walked over the sink and splashed water on my face. This was a dream. It had to be. I couldn't be losing her. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. This was all some sick and twisted dream and right now I was actually curled up next to Jade on her couch. It's Christmas Eve and it's the tradition to camp out in the living room in hopes of seeing "Santa." Jade now just liked to shoot her parents in the ass with a Nerf gun every time they bended over to set a present under thee tree.
I pinched my arms until they were purple and numb. I rubbed my eyes until they were swollen and red. I tricked myself into thinking that this wasn't reality. Of course, deep down, I knew it was and my fiancée really was laying in a hospital bed breathing her last few breaths. I didn't know if you could call the heavy deep huffs Jade was struggling to let out breathing, but I was going to do it anyway. I may have accepted by now that this was reality, but I would never accept that Jade was going to die. She wasn't going to, at least not now.
"Andy?" I heard. I turned around to see Juliet leaning against the doorframe. "Are you okay?"
I gritted my teeth, "This is your fault."
"Andrew," Juliet slightly warned.
"THIS IS YOUR FAULT, JULIET!" I screamed. "IF YOU WOULD'VE JUST SIGNED THAT GODDAMN DIVORCE PAPERS WHEN WE ASKED YOU TO, NONE OF THIS WOULD BE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!"
"You need to leave," Juliet said calmly.
I shook my head, "You don't get to swoop in and tell me to leave. At least I care about her."
"Andy, if you really cared about her, she wouldn't be in this situation. She left your house because she got in a fight with YOU! If you really, truly cared about her, you wouldn't have upset her and right now, the two of you would be out having dinner some place nice, talking and laughing."
"You don't know what you're talking about, Juliet." I hissed, "Just leave me alone." Jade and I fought about Juliet and that's the reason she's here.
"Andy, if you want to put the blame on someone, put in on yourself," Juliet seethed. "It's your fault."
"Shut up," I said. I was so stressed and frustrated right now. I just wanted to hit something. I gritted my teeth and said, "Please, Juliet. I can't do this right now. Just...go."
"Andy, I didn't come here to fight with you. Just in case you forgot, Jade is my sister, who I do love."
I was about to say something when Jade move. I looked over at her as she opened her eyes. "Andy?"
I walked to her and sat on the edge of the bed, "Listen, I want you to always remember me and always love me, but you've got to move on as well. I want you to fall in love again because there is someone out there who will love you as much, or even more than I do. I want you to start a family and love your life to the fullest. I want you to come sit by my headstone and talk to me whenever you're feeling low. I want you to know that I'm always with you. I want you to remember that I love you."
I shook my head, "Stop. You're not dying."
She smiled, "Yes I am and I'm ready. You need to be too."
"I'm not! I never will be!" I was crying. She couldn't leave me.
She squeezed my hand and closed her eyes, "I love you."
Juliet was already yelling for doctors as Jade slowly slipped farther and farther away. And then, the heart monitor stopped beeping and there was a long high-pitched sound. She was dead.
