The next practice feels different. I arrive at the community center with a mix of anticipation and anxiety swirling within me. The group gathers around, laughter and banter filling the air, and for a moment, I let myself feel a sense of belonging.

Mia approaches me with her usual enthusiasm. "I've been thinking," she says, her eyes sparkling. "Why don't you perform a verse of one of your songs tonight? Just to us? It'll be like a warm-up!"

My heart races at the suggestion. "Just in front of you guys?"

"Yeah! It'll be fun! And if you're nervous, just picture us in our pajamas," she adds with a teasing smile.

I chuckle despite myself, but the thought of singing in front of anyone sends a jolt of fear through me. "I don't know, Mia. What if I mess up?"

"That's what practice is for! And if you mess up, we'll cheer you on anyway. Just remember, we're here to support you."

Her encouragement begins to chip away at my apprehension, and I finally nod. "Okay, I'll do it."

As practice goes on, I take a moment to step outside, needing some fresh air. The cool breeze ruffles my hair, and I close my eyes, inhaling deeply. I can hear the faint sound of laughter and music behind me, grounding me in this moment.

Suddenly, Leo joins me, leaning against the wall beside me. "You ready for tonight?" he asks, his expression warm and encouraging.

"I guess," I reply, my voice barely above a whisper. "I just don't want to disappoint anyone."

He shrugs, a relaxed smile playing on his lips. "You won't. Just focus on the music and forget about everything else. You've got this, Lila."

His confidence in me reignites a flicker of determination. "Thanks, Leo. It means a lot."

As we head back inside, I feel the weight of my fears start to lift. When it's my turn, I stand up, the room going quiet as everyone turns to me. I take a deep breath, the lyrics I've practiced echoing in my mind.

With trembling hands, I start to sing. The words spill out, raw and vulnerable, and as I continue, the nervous energy transforms into something beautiful.

When I finish, the room erupts into applause. "See? You were amazing!" Mia shouts, her excitement infectious.

"Seriously, that was incredible," Aaron adds, a proud smile on his face.

Leo gives me a thumbs-up, his eyes shining with encouragement. "You killed it!"

For the first time, I feel a rush of pride wash over me. I did it. I stepped outside my comfort zone and let my voice be heard.
