Backstage, the excitement is palpable. I'm still in shock, holding my trophy tightly as Leo and Mia celebrate with me.
"This is just the beginning, Lila! You're going to do amazing things!" Leo says, his eyes shining with pride.
"Let's go out and celebrate!" Mia suggests, her enthusiasm contagious. "You deserve this!"
We decide to hit our favorite diner, where we can bask in the victory together. As we settle into a booth, I can't help but grin. "I still can't believe I won. This is surreal!"
The three of us talk excitedly about what comes next-the recording contract, new songs, and the summer festival performance. It feels like a dream come true, and I savor every moment.
But as I scroll through my phone, the excitement falters when I see a message from my mom. "We need to talk. Your father and I are worried."
A wave of anxiety washes over me. "I think I should head home," I say, my heart sinking.
"Do you want us to come with you?" Mia asks, her concern evident.
"No, I'll be fine. I just need to face them," I reply, trying to sound more confident than I feel.
As I drive home, my mind races. I can only imagine what my parents want to discuss. My heart feels heavy, anticipating their disappointment.
When I walk through the front door, the atmosphere is tense. My parents are waiting for me in the living room, their expressions serious.
"Lila, we need to talk about this competition," my dad begins, his voice calm but firm.
"I know you're concerned, but I won, and this is an opportunity I can't ignore," I reply, trying to assert myself.
"We're not questioning your talent," my mom says, her voice trembling slightly. "But we worry that you're putting too much focus on music instead of your education and responsibilities."
I feel frustration bubbling within me. "I've balanced everything! Music is important to me, and I need your support, not judgment."
"We just want what's best for you," my dad insists. "You need to think about your future and what this means for your education."
"I can handle both!" I argue, my voice rising. "I'm tired of feeling like I have to choose. I want to follow my dreams!"
Silence hangs in the air, and I can see the conflict in their eyes. I know they love me, but their fear is suffocating. I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself. "I need you to trust me. I'm making choices that are important to me."
After a long pause, my dad nods slowly. "We'll consider what you've said. But we need to see you taking your studies seriously."
"I promise I will," I say, my heart aching for their acceptance.
