Eventually, Lila’s family notices her passion, and their response is as disheartening as it is familiar. They question the time she spends on something “frivolous” when she could be focusing on more “useful” tasks. Their criticisms cut deep, and the joy she felt begins to fade, overshadowed by doubt. She’s torn between holding onto this piece of herself and bending to the family’s demands, as she has so many times before.
Her best friend, however, refuses to let her give up. He reminds her of how much happiness this small passion has brought her and how important it is to hold onto things that make life bearable. His words strengthen her resolve, and Lila decides that no matter what her family thinks, she won’t abandon her passion. She finds ways to work on it in secret, hiding her materials and practicing when the house is silent. Despite her family’s disapproval, she feels a quiet victory in holding onto this piece of herself.
