As the open mic night approaches, I can't shake the nerves that settle in the pit of my stomach. I'm excited to perform with Leo, but I also dread the thought of my family being in the audience. What if they judge me? What if they think I'm wasting my time?
The day before the performance, I receive another text from my mom: "We're coming to watch you tomorrow. You need to remember your responsibilities."
I stare at the message, anger and frustration bubbling up inside me. Why can't they understand that music is my responsibility too? I take a deep breath, reminding myself of the progress I've made.
That evening, I decide to confide in Leo and Mia about my fears. We meet at our usual spot in the park, and as we sit under the stars, I share my anxiety about my family's expectations.
"I just wish they could see how important this is to me," I say, my voice trembling. "But I feel like they only see the chores I don't do or the grades I need to maintain."
Leo listens intently, nodding. "You're not alone in this, Lila. You're pursuing your dreams, and that's what matters. You have to stay true to yourself."
Mia chimes in, her voice warm and encouraging. "Your family may not understand now, but they'll see how passionate you are. Just keep showing up for yourself."
Their support fills me with strength, and I realize that I can't let my family's expectations define my worth. I take a deep breath, determination rising within me. "You're right. I'm going to give it my all tomorrow, regardless of what they think."
As we finalize the details for our performance, I feel a sense of empowerment. I may not have control over my family's reactions, but I do have control over my choices. I'm ready to take this leap, to embrace my passion for music.
The next night arrives, and the venue buzzes with excitement. I step onto the stage with Leo and Mia by my side, my heart pounding in rhythm with the music. As the spotlight shines down on us, I take a deep breath and remind myself why I'm here.
We start playing, and the energy in the room is electric. With every note, I pour my heart into the performance, feeling the connection with the audience. I glance at Leo and Mia, and their smiles give me the confidence I need to shine.
When we finish, the applause echoes around us, and I feel a surge of pride. In that moment, I realize that I've taken a step towards my dreams-one that's mine alone, regardless of anyone else's expectations.
