In the bustling university cafeteria, Yoongi sat at a table with his friends Namjoon, Jin, Jimin, and Taehyung, the group casually discussing upcoming exams and deadlines. But Yoongi wasn’t listening. His mind was consumed by anger over a humiliating incident in class—someone who wasn’t even on the same level as him had taken his title as class captain. It was simply unbelievable.
Jimin, seated beside Yoongi, noticed the tension and gave his back a light pat. "What’s up with you?" Jimin asked, curious.
Yoongi rolled his eyes, letting out a frustrated sigh. "Some wallflower stole my title as class captain," he muttered, barely keeping his anger in check.
Jimin, Namjoon, Jin, and Taehyung all gasped, stunned by the news. Jimin glanced at Namjoon, his boyfriend, and then back at Yoongi. “How did that happen?” he asked.
Yoongi’s irritation only grew as he explained. “This Hoseok or whatever his name is got a ranking of 102% on the test while I got 80%,” he grumbled.
“Wow,” Taehyung said, impressed. “The guy must be smart to surpass the school’s ranking level.”
Yoongi’s jaw clenched as he absorbed Taehyung’s words. Namjoon, genuinely puzzled, asked, “Who’s this Hoseok? I haven’t heard that name here before.”
Yoongi scoffed. “Probably because he’s a lowlife,” he muttered dismissively.
Just then, the cafeteria doors swung open, and in walked Jungkook, holding hands with none other than Yoongi’s new nemesis—Hoseok. They seemed to be growing closer.
Taehyung and Jin exchanged raised eyebrows, and Taehyung asked, “Why is our boyfriend with that newbie?”
Yoongi and Jimin turned to look, and Yoongi’s anger flared anew as he spotted Hoseok. “That’s the guy who stole my title,” he grumbled.
They all looked Hoseok up and down, noting from his modest clothing that he didn’t seem to come from wealth.
Jungkook guided a shy, almost-whining Hoseok toward their table. When they reached it, Jungkook firmly seated Hoseok beside Yoongi, who gave Hoseok a steely glare. Jungkook, unfazed, sat down next to his boyfriends, Taehyung and Jin, and greeted them by kissing each of them on the cheek.
Taehyung and Jin both blushed, their earlier jealousy dissipating as they each intertwined their hands with Jungkook’s from either side.
The table fell into an awkward silence until Namjoon cleared his throat, looking to Jungkook. “So… who is your new friend, again?” he asked, though he already had a clue.
Yoongi clenched his fingers in annoyance, while Jungkook detached his hands from his boyfriends, clapping them together excitedly. “Guys, meet Hoseok!” he announced with enthusiasm. “Hoseok, these are my friends and boyfriends. This is Namjoon, Jimin, Taehyung, and Yoongi,” he said, pointing to each person. “And of course, Jin,” he added with a grin.
Hoseok gave a small, shy wave. “Nice to meet you all,” he murmured, his smile a little hesitant. Yoongi scoffed at the greeting, and Hoseok’s face fell as he glanced down, understanding that Yoongi was still upset about the class captain situation. All Hoseok wanted was to be Yoongi’s friend, but it seemed unlikely now.
Curious, Jimin spoke up, eyeing Hoseok’s clothes with a subtle disdain. “How did you even get into this school?” he asked.
Jungkook noticed Jimin’s tone and sent him a sharp glare. “Be nice,” he warned. Jimin just rolled his eyes.
Hoseok, unaffected by the tension, smiled warmly. “I got in with a scholarship,” he explained.
Yoongi shook his head, barely containing his disbelief. The idea that someone who got into the school on a scholarship could steal his title and surpass his rank bruised his pride deeply.
Jin smiled politely at Hoseok. “Wow, only top students get scholarships here,” he commented. “That’s impressive.”
“Thank you,” Hoseok replied, his smile widening. Taehyung, intrigued, leaned forward. “So, Hoseok, who’s your family? Where do you come from?”
Relieved by the friendly conversation, Hoseok responded, “I’m from Daegu. It’s just me and my father. My mom passed away, so it’s just the two of us now.”
Jungkook leaned in, clasping Hoseok’s hands sympatheticly. “Are you an only child?”
Hoseok nodded, and Jungkook gave a sympathetic “aww,” then side-eyed Jimin playfully. “I wish I was an only child too,” he teased.
Jimin scoffed, looking unimpressed. “Sorry I came unexpectedly,” he shot back.
Jungkook smiled sheepishly, and Hoseok glanced between them, curious. “Are you two brothers?” he asked.
Jimin checked his nails nonchalantly. “Yes, unfortunately,” he said, with a hint of sarcasm.
Jungkook rolled his eyes. Meanwhile, Taehyung shifted Jungkook’s hand out of Hoseok’s grip, feeling a spark of jealousy. Hoseok took note of the interaction and asked, “Are you two dating?”
“Yes,” Jin said immediately, wrapping an arm around Jungkook possessively. “He’s dating both me and Taehyung.”
Taehyung nodded, his hand moving through Jungkook’s hair. Jungkook smiled and rolled his eyes, and Hoseok, who was just beginning to feel a bit more comfortable, looked down quietly.
Breaking the silence abruptly, Yoongi glared at Hoseok and muttered, “Can you move?”
Jungkook gasped. “Yoongi, that’s not very nice,” he protested. “Don’t be angry just because someone worthy got the class captain title.”
Yoongi hissed in response, standing up. “Shut up, Jungkook,” he snapped, and Taehyung’s voice cut through sternly, “Yoongi.”
“What?” Yoongi shot back, rolling his eyes before storming out of the cafeteria.
Namjoon sighed, watching Yoongi leave. “Jungkook, when are you and Yoongi going to get along?”
“Never,” Jungkook replied flatly, making everyone else sigh in unison—everyone except Hoseok, who looked back toward the door thoughtfully.
After a moment, he stood up, excusing himself quietly. The group nodded in acknowledgment, and Hoseok exited the cafeteria, hoping to find Yoongi and explain himself. He hadn’t meant to take Yoongi’s title and wanted to find a way to make amends.
