One year later...

One year had passed, but the weight of guilt Yoongi carried never faded. Night after night, he swore he saw Hoseok standing in his dorm room or watching him through his window. Sometimes, even when alone, he felt a presence—cold, unrelenting, as if Hoseok had come back from the grave to haunt him. The paranoia kept him awake at night, driving him to the edge. The others hadn’t forgiven him, and he knew he deserved it. They had laid Hoseok to rest in Daegu, near his father’s grave, knowing it was where he would have wanted to be. But closure felt impossible.

Jungkook had changed the most since Hoseok’s passing. He’d become withdrawn, quiet, a shadow of his former self. The lively, cheerful side of him had withered, replaced with cold indifference that everyone around him could feel. Before meeting Hoseok, Jungkook had always been guarded, but Hoseok had somehow broken through his walls with his warmth. Now, that warmth was gone, leaving Jungkook colder than ever.

Resuming university after the holidays only added to the sorrow they all felt. Now in a new term, Jungkook sat in his art department class, silent as the professor lectured at the front. Yoongi was there too, though they barely exchanged glances. The room was quiet, the air thick with the weight of unspoken grief, when suddenly, the classroom door opened, and the vice principal stepped in.

Everyone stood, bowing in greeting, though the atmosphere remained tense. She smiled politely, and next to her stood a young man, his presence striking and unnerving. His eyes were dark, piercing, holding a coldness that made everyone stop and stare. He looked to be around nineteen, his face unreadable, but his gaze… it was filled with something almost too intense to decipher.

Yoongi found himself caught in the stranger’s stare, and a chill ran through him. There was something about this boy that sent an instinctive wave of fear through him. His eyes held a promise of vengeance that Yoongi couldn’t shake, and as he looked closer, he realized with a start that this boy bore a startling resemblance to Hoseok.

The vice principal turned to the teacher, still smiling. “This is a new student. He came through with a scholarship—extremely intelligent.” She gave the boy a light pat on the back, then left the room, closing the door behind her.

The teacher gestured for the class to sit, and they did, watching with curiosity and perhaps a bit of unease. “This is your new classmate,” the teacher said, her tone warm but firm. “Let’s welcome him with open arms.”

Jungkook stared at the new student, feeling something unsettling, something familiar that he couldn’t quite place. There was something in the boy’s stance, his gaze, that tugged at buried memories. He had to resist the urge to look away as he waited, tense, for the boy to speak.

The boy’s voice broke through the silence, rough and filled with malice as he addressed the class, his glare sharp enough to cut. “My name…” He paused, letting his gaze sweep over every face in the room, lingering for a moment on Yoongi before he continued, his tone dripping with contempt. “...is Manoban Hoseok.”
