The cafeteria hummed with its usual midday energy. Jimin sat beside Namjoon, carefully lifting a spoonful of food to Namjoon’s lips, his face filled with soft adoration. Namjoon blushed furiously, glancing around in embarrassment but opening his mouth anyway. Jimin couldn’t help but grin as Namjoon struggled to hide his bashful smile.
Meanwhile, across the table, Jungkook’s complaints filled the air as Taehyung and Jin fussed over him. Jin was cutting Jungkook’s food into smaller pieces, while Taehyung brushed crumbs from his shirt.
“Honestly, I’m not a child!” Jungkook huffed, cheeks puffed out in frustration.
Taehyung laughed, ruffling Jungkook’s hair despite his protests. “You’ll always be our baby, kookie.”
“Exactly!” Jin chimed in, smirking as he nudged another forkful of food towards Jungkook.
Just then, the cafeteria doors swung open, and the group’s banter died down. All eyes turned to the entrance as Yoongi and Hoseok walked in… together. Yoongi was chuckling, while Hoseok’s cheeks were a soft shade of pink, his eyes bright with laughter. The sight left everyone at the table in stunned silence.
Jungkook immediately tensed, eyes narrowing. He half-expected some sort of confrontation, maybe even a fight. But what he saw instead made him blink in disbelief. Yoongi and Hoseok were laughing together, looking perfectly at ease.
Jimin blinked, rubbing his eyes dramatically. “Am I seeing things? Is that… Yoongi and Hoseok?”
Taehyung leaned over, whispering, “Guys, are we all seeing this?”
Everyone nodded, eyes fixed on the unlikely duo as they approached the table and took seats together. Hoseok smiled at the group, still a bit shy. “Hey, everyone.”
The others greeted them back, their voices tinged with confusion. Yoongi wrapped an arm casually around Hoseok’s shoulders, causing Hoseok’s blush to deepen as he looked down.
“Surprising, right?” Hoseok chuckled. “But Yoongi and I are friends now.”
“Friends?!” The group shouted, causing half the cafeteria to turn and give them annoyed looks. Hoseok giggled nervously, and Yoongi’s arm tightened around him.
Jungkook’s expression darkened. Something didn’t sit right with him. Watching Yoongi act so relaxed, so casual—it made Jungkook’s gut twist with suspicion.
Yoongi cleared his throat, as if preparing for a grand speech. “I’ve been doing some thinking, thanks to Jungkook here.” He gestured towards Jungkook, who was watching him intently. “He really knocked some sense into me. Made me realize I’ve been acting… childish about that title. I mean, I’ve won it so many times, but it’s just a title. Other people deserve a chance too.”
The group let out a collective “aww,” genuinely touched by Yoongi’s sudden change of heart. But Jungkook’s frown only deepened, an uncomfortable feeling settling in his stomach. He didn’t buy it, not for a second.
“This is wonderful news!” Namjoon beamed, looking around. “We should celebrate tonight, don’t you think?”
Yoongi and Hoseok nodded enthusiastically. Jin noticed Jungkook’s tense expression and leaned over, whispering softly. “Come on, Kook. This is your chance to make amends. Why don’t you let bygones be bygones?”
Jungkook shook his head, muttering back, “Never. Something smells fishy here.”
Jin sighed, rolling his eyes but decided to leave it alone, giving Jungkook a light pat on the back.
Suddenly, Yoongi perked up as if he’d just remembered something important. He turned to Hoseok with a curious expression. “Hey, Hoseok, can I ask you a… personal question?”
Hoseok blinked, caught off guard but nodding. “Uh, sure, go ahead.”
Yoongi gave him a charming smile, though his eyes gleamed with something unreadable. “Are you… gay?”
The whole table froze, their jaws dropping as they looked from Yoongi to Hoseok. Jungkook hissed, barely able to contain his irritation. “Yoongi, you can’t just ask that! That’s a personal question!”
Yoongi shrugged nonchalantly, putting his hands up. “I said it was personal, and Hoseok agreed to answer.”
Before Jungkook could counter, Hoseok cleared his throat, his cheeks flushed as he looked down. “Yes. I am.”
The group’s initial shock quickly melted into supportive smiles. Taehyung reached out, patting Hoseok’s shoulder. “Hey, that’s totally cool. We’re all gay here, so no need to feel awkward.”
Hoseok’s face softened into a relieved smile. “Thank you… it’s a big relief to be accepted.”
He turned to Yoongi, who gave him a thumbs-up. “No problem, Hoseok. You’re with friends here.”
Hoseok’s heart swelled with gratitude, and he pulled Yoongi into a hug. Yoongi’s face remained carefully neutral, though his eyes briefly flashed with something darker. Jungkook’s suspicions only grew as he watched Yoongi’s expression shift.
The others returned to their food, laughing and joking, unaware of Jungkook’s mounting discomfort. As he watched Yoongi lean back, a small, unsettling smirk tugged at the corner of Yoongi’s lips.
If only he had acted sooner.
