Two days later...

It had been two days, and still, Hoseok was nowhere to be found.

In those days, everything seemed to shift as the world around Hoseok’s friends became a whirl of questions and whispered speculations. The five of them had filed a missing persons report, their desperation visible in their worn expressions. The police investigation quickly brought up unsettling facts: Hoseok had been expelled and was scheduled to leave that same night, but his belongings had been left untouched in his dorm. It was strange, baffling even—Hoseok wouldn’t have just left everything behind…would he?

When the police reached out to his home in Daegu, only a girl named Somi had answered. She claimed to be Hoseok’s best friend, confirming that she’d spoken with him that night. Somi’s voice had faltered as she told the officer that during their call, she’d informed Hoseok of his father’s death, and soon after, the line had disconnected. The police believed that explained the broken phone his friends had found in Hoseok’s room.

The entire university buzzed with curiosity and rumors, unable to look away from the unfolding tragedy surrounding the boy they knew only through scandal. Yet for his friends, the thought of losing him was more than they could bear. They clung to hope, unwilling to believe he’d just…left. Hoseok wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t leave them without a goodbye, right?

Outside the university, the five friends were helping Jungkook with his community service, their minds heavy with worry. Taehyung looked up and suddenly gasped. “Guys…the police,” he whispered, his voice trembling. “They’re here…maybe they have a lead?”

The others looked up, spotting two officers making their way toward the principal’s office. Jungkook dropped his broom without a second thought, sprinting toward them, the others close behind. They intercepted the officers before they reached the building, determination and fear in their eyes.

Recognizing them as Hoseok’s friends, the police sighed, sympathy etched in their expressions. Jimin stepped forward, his voice barely steady. “Do…do you have any lead on Hoseok’s whereabouts?”

One of the officers nodded slowly, his tone grave. “Yes, we do. But you’ll need to prepare yourselves—it isn’t good news.” He paused, watching them gulp and brace themselves. “Earlier today, we received a call from a mortuary reporting the case of an unidentified body found in the ocean. It was a man who called it in, and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene after a man had witnessed the boy falling off the bridge. The boy was retrieved from the water, but…” His voice grew somber. “The boy had already passed, likely fallen from the bridge.”

Jin’s hand flew to his mouth, his face paling as he connected the dots. The officer continued, his tone softening. “The body has been at the mortuary for two days now, unclaimed by any friends or family. CCTV footage from a nearby supermarket shows the boy seating on the bridge alone before he…let go.”

The officer took a breath, meeting each of their eyes with a heavy sadness. “We visited the mortuary, and…well, the boy bore a striking resemblance to your friend, Hoseok.”

Jungkook’s head shook violently, his voice breaking. “No! That can’t be… Hoseok wouldn’t… That can’t be him!”

The officers looked at him sympathetically. “If you don’t believe it, you can come with us to the mortuary. But please, speak with your principal for permission first.”

A heavy silence fell over them, the weight of dread sinking into their hearts.

This was only getting worse.
