ARIA
"Tell me what happened."
Jungkook tried to give me a reassuring smile, but it came out more like a wince. "Don't worry. I'm fine, Ari. Just... ran into a little trouble, that's all."
"A little trouble?" I repeated, my voice elevating as I took his hands, examining the damage. "Your face is bruised, and your hands—" I stopped, looking up at him, my worry turning into something sharper. "Who did this to you?"
He sighed, glancing away for a moment. I could see the flicker of something in his eyes—frustration, maybe anger. I couldn't quite read it. "It's nothing, Ari. Just a misunderstanding. It's over now."
"No, it's not over." My voice was raised and trembling now as I struggled to keep my composure. "Who did this to you, Jungkook?"
I watched him, waiting. The way his jaw tightened, the subtle flinch when I asked, the way he kept trying to avoid the question had confirmed what I already knew before he even opened his mouth. Still, I just needed to hear him say it wasn't what I thought. That it was anything else—a stupid bar fight, a careless stranger on the street, anything.
But I knew better.
He hesitated, and for a moment, I thought he wasn't going to answer. But then he forced out a sharp breath, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "I caught some punk fucking around with my bike. When I got closer, I saw he was trying to cut the brake line."
I felt my blood run cold. "What?!"
"When I tried to question him, he smirked and then sucker punched me. All I remember after that was someone pulling me off of him." Jungkook explained, his voice low.
The room seemed to spin around me, and I reached out, gripping the edge of the counter to steady myself.
No. This couldn't be happening. Not again.
"Oh my God... she's really trying to—" I couldn't even finish the sentence. The words felt too heavy, too real, too... terrifying to say out loud.
Jungkook nodded, his expression stark. "She's trying to scare us, Ari. But I'm not letting her win."
But this wasn't just about scaring us anymore. She was serious. Dead-ass serious.
I was supposed to tell him about the baby tonight. I had rehearsed it, imagined how I would say it and how he'd react, but now... how could I? How could I tell him we were having a baby when his life was in danger all because of me?
I wanted to say something, anything, but all I could do was stand there, staring at the bruises on his face, the cuts on his hands, and feeling the fear slowly creep in, wrapping around my heart like a vise.
