JUNGKOOK

The gravity of the moment hit me the second I pulled on my shirt.

I was meeting Aria's dad.

It wasn't like I didn't know this day was coming at some point. I mean, if we weren't here in Hawaii, we would've been getting married the day after tomorrow. But now, as I slipped my watch onto my wrist and stared at my reflection, it suddenly felt more intense than I'd expected.

More... real.

I wouldn't say I was nervous, exactly. Nervous wasn't quite the word for it. Pressure would probably be more appropriate, and I was well acquainted with pressure... had been for most of my life. Especially in the past year with opening my gym, trying to build something from nothing, and working my ass off to create the life I wanted.

This wasn't the same, though.
Maybe because it wasn't only about me.
It was about her.
About us.

Her dad wasn't the kind of guy I'd ever imagine sitting across a table from. He ran in circles I didn't belong to, and he probably had expectations for his daughter that didn't include a guy with nothing more than a gym and a bike to his name. He was used to polished, corporate types—the kind of men who wore suits and ties—not black button-downs with an open collar and sleeves rolled up to the elbows.

I didn't belong in his world.
I wasn't blind to that.

What made me... hesitant, though, was the thought of him possibly sitting across from us tonight, looking down at me like I wasn't good enough for Aria. I knew what people thought when they saw me—the ink, the piercings, the quiet confidence I wore like armor. I wasn't the kind of guy who fit neatly into anyone's box of expectations, least of all a father's. But I wasn't about to let any of that change the way I felt about my woman. We'd built something together—something solid. We were partners in every sense of the word.

It didn't matter what her dad thought—at least, that's what I told myself. Still, there was this nagging voice in the back of my mind.

The truth was... it did matter.
Because Aria mattered.

She saw past all the surface-level bullshit, and she'd chosen me. I'd earned her love and trust because of the man I was to her—the way I loved, honored and cherished her, the way I respected her and protected her heart. And for her, I'd show up tonight and let her dad see all of that... all of me. Not because I needed his approval, but because I knew it mattered to her.

"You're quiet." Ari's soft, sweet voice pulled me from my thoughts as she glanced at me through the mirror. The late afternoon sun spilled through the windows, bathing her skin in a golden glow. A small, content smile played on her lips as she swept a makeup brush over her cheeks. Her hair was pinned back, loose curls framing her face in a way that made her look so effortlessly stunning, she managed to steal my breath without even trying.
