JUNGKOOK
I shifted in my sleep, expecting to find my woman beside me, but she was already up and out of bed. The realization dragged me into full wakefulness, even though I wasn't ready yet. It had been a rough day yesterday and an even rougher night. I just needed a little time to hold her before starting the day.
It wasn't like her to beat me out of bed during her breaks. On the rare mornings I took off from work , she usually stayed in bed until I pulled her up for lunch, relishing the slow, easy start. But after everything that went down yesterday, she probably hadn't slept at all. Hell, I'd barely slept myself.
I sat up, scrubbing a hand over my face as more memories from yesterday came flooding back. I can't believe that fucking psycho literally tried to take me out. Every time I thought about it, a surge of anger rose in my chest, my jaw and fists clenching involuntarily.
I padded out to the bathroom and then to the kitchen, where Aria was standing at the stove, already dressed with her wispy curls loosely tied back. She was moving quietly, almost mechanically, as she stirred something in the pan.
As I silently watched her, the anger grew stronger. The woman I'd loved for almost two years, who'd given me nothing but love, support, and happiness, was now carrying the weight of threats against my life made by her own mother. And the fact that Aria had to shoulder that, to feel like she needed to protect me, pissed me off even more.
And for what?
For daring to love, honor and protect her daughter and build a life with her? I'd never imagined someone would actually try to have anyone killed over that. But Aria's mom? She was that kind of ruthless. She would rather see her daughter sad, broken and afraid than let her live her life freely and choose happiness for herself.
I'd spent my life fighting through anything that came my way, but this... this was different. It wasn't a battle I could face head-on or a threat I could simply shut down. But there was no way I was going to let that bitch win by scaring Aria into leaving me. No one—not even her—was going to tear us apart. With a slow, deep breath, I pushed the lingering thoughts aside and just forced myself to shake it off for now.
"Morning beautiful," I greeted softly, slipping my arms around her waist from behind. She stiffened for a moment before leaning into me and letting out a soft sigh.
"Morning, handsome," she murmured our usual greeting, tilting her head back to look up at me and pressing a quick kiss to my lips. But something about it felt different today.
Her smile was there, but it was weak, and I could see the faintest hint of circles under her eyes. The way she looked at me tugged at something deep in my chest, confirming what I already knew... yesterday had been too much.
"What's all this?" I asked, glancing at the stove. "Since when do you make breakfast and let me sleep in?" I tried to keep my tone light, hoping it would draw her out of whatever was on her mind.
