felix pov:
I didn't expect we'd be here like this, discussing over a bed.
from the start, our dynamic had shifted. we were overly sarcastic and now? we were sharing sweet moments that made my heart flutter.
I wasn't supposed to feel like this; we were married by contract but since we started making efforts, the line between real life and the facade was fading, more than I'd ever like.
He nudged me. "You can take the bed; I'll be fine on the couch or the floor." His tone was sincere.
"It'd be uncomfortable for both of us... let's just share the bed." Even I was surprised by my own suggestion.
"That could work," he replied, glancing toward the bathroom. "Pretty sure the hotel has pajamas in there. You grab a set, and I'll change here while you're in the bathroom."
"Sure," I said, heading to the bathroom. There were two sizes, XXL and XL, so I took the smaller one and handed the other to him. Once I'd changed, I hung my clothes on the hooks by the door and stepped back out.
He had finished changing, too, and went to hang his own clothes. Meanwhile, I was searching through the drawers, hoping to find some snacks.
He sat on one side of the bed, scrolling through his phone, when I heard a notification ding.
"It's yours," he called over.
"Could you check it? Password's 25318," I replied with a smile, setting a couple of ramen cups by the kettle.
"Sure," he shrugged, unlocking my phone. After a second, he said, "It's from your mom..."
I nodded, keeping my tone calm. "It's fine. She only messages me if it's important. Just let me know what she said."
He hesitated, then started reading. "'Are you liking the love show so far? ... How's Yuri?'" His voice got sharper with each word.
"She sent her?" I muttered, my frustration spiking.
He looked over. "Wait, her name's Yuri? I thought it was Yume or Yumi."
"That's not the point," I said, sighing. "She set this up right after I confronted her?"
"Whoa, whoa, Lix, calm down." Hyunjin set down the ramen, guiding me to sit down.
"You confronted her?" he asked, sounding surprised.
I nodded. "Yeah, the day I messaged you to ask if I could move in soon. I told her everything—how I kept trying to fill the emptiness she left, but it was never enough. I told her I wasn't her son anymore, and if she needed to reach me, it should be an emergency." I wiped a tear quickly, almost embarrassed. "Funny thing is, I don't even regret it."
I looked at him, smiling despite the tears. "And don't try to comfort me, okay? The decision I made is solid. Sure, I might shed a few tears, but it's nothing compared to the rivers I've cried before."
He laughed softly. "You know, I admire you for being brave. It's your choice, your life. Just because I'm your husband doesn't mean it should change the decisions you make."
I let out a small smile, feeling a warmth I couldn't name. "Alright, enough emotions. I'm hungry." I switched topics, handing him his portion of the noodles.
"Fine, fine," he grinned, rolling his eyes as we started eating.
Later, we lay in bed, with what felt like a mile between us. My back was to him, but I felt like I was about to fall off the edge, so I scooted closer until our backs met.
