Y/n leaned against the counter in Bell, Book & Candle, watching as Grace carefully rearranged a display of candles. Her focus and precision made him smile, and he couldn't help but admire how the late afternoon light caught in her hair. She glanced up, noticing his gaze, and a playful smirk tugged at her lips.
"Enjoying the view?" she teased, adjusting a lavender candle.
"Always," Y/n replied, stepping closer. "I don't know how you make a regular Tuesday feel special, but somehow, you do."
Grace rolled her eyes, though her cheeks flushed slightly. "Maybe you're just biased."
"Maybe," he agreed, smiling as he gently took her hand. "But you make things feel... magical."
Just then, the bell above the shop door chimed. Cassie entered, carrying a small package and smiling as she took in the scene. Setting the package on the counter, she looked at the two of them with that warm, knowing expression.
"Looks like you two are enjoying yourselves," Cassie said lightly, a hint of insight behind her words.
Grace grinned, giving Y/n's hand a squeeze before letting go. "We were just about to go for a walk by the river."
Cassie nodded, then motioned toward a small table by the window. "Why don't you sit down for a moment? I have something to share with you."
Y/n and Grace exchanged curious glances as they moved to the table. Cassie joined them, opening the package to reveal a delicate silver necklace with a tiny heart charm.
"This belonged to my great-grandmother," Cassie explained, passing the necklace to Grace. "It's said to bring good fortune to those who carry it. I thought it might be something you'd like to share... as a couple."
Grace's eyes sparkled as she held the necklace, looking at Y/n with a smile. "Thank you, Mom. It's beautiful."
Cassie's gaze softened. "Love is a powerful thing, and it often grows strongest in the smallest moments. Cherish those moments, and always remember to be grateful for each other."
Y/n felt a warmth spread through him at Cassie's words. Her wisdom and kindness had made Middleton feel like home from the beginning, and now, her blessing on his relationship with Grace felt like the final piece of the puzzle.
Grace reached over, clasping his hand, the necklace resting between them. "Looks like you're officially part of the family now," she teased, her eyes shining.
He laughed softly, his heart full. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
Cassie gave them a parting nod, her expression full of that ever-present understanding. "Enjoy your walk."
With the necklace in Y/n's pocket, they stepped out into the bustling square, hand in hand. After wandering through the town, they reached the bridge over the river. The setting sun painted the sky in shades of pink and gold, casting a glow over the water below.
They leaned on the railing together, taking in the view in comfortable silence. Finally, Y/n turned to Grace, pulling the necklace from his pocket.
"Grace," he began softly, "can I... put this on you?"
Her eyes widened slightly, and then she nodded, turning and lifting her hair as he gently clasped the necklace around her neck. His fingers brushed against her skin as he adjusted it, making sure it lay perfectly.
"There," he said, stepping back to take in the sight. The charm rested lightly against her collarbone, catching the last of the sunlight. "It suits you... just like everything about Middleton suits you."
She turned to face him, her hand reaching up to touch the charm. Her eyes were warm, filled with that steady affection he'd come to cherish. "And you, Y/n. You make this place... everything I could ever want."
He reached for her hand, entwining their fingers as he looked into her eyes. "You're my home, Grace. Middleton, this town, it all matters because... it's where you are."
Without another word, he leaned down and kissed her, the touch soft but filled with the depth of everything he felt. As they stood there, the warmth of Cassie's blessing and the beauty of the moment between them, Y/n knew he was exactly where he was meant to be.
