The day started like any other in the Torres household. Except, of course, it wasn't. It was Yes Day, the day Carlos and Allison Torres had promised their kids they'd say "yes" to (almost) everything. Katie had been waiting for this day, not for the endless fun and excitement, but for one specific request.
"Okay, Katie, you're up first," Allison said, a nervous smile on her face. "What's your ask?"
Katie grinned mischievously. She had spent weeks perfecting her plan. "I want Y/n to join us for Yes Day."
Carlos's smile faltered. "Katie..."
"You said no rules about my asks!" Katie shot back, folding her arms in defiance.
Carlos and Allison exchanged a look. They weren't exactly Y/n's biggest fans—not because he'd done anything wrong, but because his bad-boy look screamed trouble. Tall and leanly muscular, Y/n had black hair that always seemed effortlessly messy, dark eyes that seemed to see right through you, and a natural confidence that came from his Spanish heritage. His father was Colombian, and his mother was from Panama, a fact Katie often boasted about when her parents tried to question his character.
But he was polite. Respectful. And Katie liked him. A lot.
"All right," Allison finally said, sighing. "Yes."
Katie squealed with excitement and immediately pulled out her phone.
An hour later, Y/n pulled up to the Torres house on his motorcycle, parking neatly at the curb. He took off his helmet, revealing his sharp features and neatly disheveled black hair. His black leather jacket fit snugly over his toned frame, the late morning sun reflecting off its surface.
"Thanks for letting me tag along," Y/n said, offering Allison and Carlos a warm smile.
Carlos crossed his arms. "Rules are rules. But remember, this is family time."
Y/n nodded respectfully. "Understood, Mr. Torres." His deep voice carried a hint of his heritage, subtle but charming.
Katie grabbed Y/n's hand, her face glowing with excitement. "Come on, let's go! We've got a lot to do today."
The first stop was a car wash, which quickly turned into a soap-suds battle. Y/n surprised everyone by ditching his tough-guy persona and diving headfirst into the chaos, grabbing a sponge and joining Ellie and Nando in splashing Carlos. Even Allison couldn't hold back a laugh as Y/n got drenched but still managed to look effortlessly cool.
Next came the enormous sundae challenge. Y/n sat beside Katie, armed with an oversized spoon, as they all dug into the massive dessert.
"Wow, you actually have a sweet tooth?" Katie teased, nudging Y/n.
"Only for ice cream," Y/n replied with a grin, a dimple flashing on his cheek. "And maybe you."
Katie blushed, and Carlos pretended not to hear, though his side-eye said otherwise.
The day continued with spontaneous games, silly dares, and endless laughter. Y/n fit right in, impressing Carlos and Allison with his charm and his genuine care for Katie and her siblings. When Nando asked Y/n to help him build a human tower for one of his challenges, Y/n didn't hesitate to hoist him onto his shoulders, his lean muscles flexing as he balanced the wiggling boy.
By the time the family reached the carnival, Y/n had won over even Carlos.
"See? Told you he wasn't so bad," Katie whispered to her dad as Y/n helped Ellie win a giant stuffed bear at one of the booths.
Carlos sighed but nodded. "Yeah, yeah. He's... fine."
Katie grinned.
As the sun set, the group gathered for one final challenge: a massive karaoke contest. Y/n was reluctant at first, but Katie dragged him up to the stage.
The music started, and Y/n surprised everyone by singing Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony. His rich, deep voice carried the energy and passion of the song, his Spanish accent making the lyrics even more vibrant. He smiled as the audience clapped along, swaying with the rhythm.
"Voy a reír, voy a bailar
Vivir mi vida, lalala..."Katie couldn't take her eyes off him, her heart swelling with pride. Even Carlos tapped his foot to the beat, though he tried to hide it behind a stern expression.
By the end of the performance, the entire family was on their feet, clapping and laughing.
Katie leaned over and whispered, "You're full of surprises, you know that?"
"Only for you," Y/n replied with a playful bow, his smile lighting up the moment.
When the day finally ended, and the family returned home, Carlos and Allison pulled Y/n aside.
"Y/n," Carlos started, his tone more approving than before. "You're a good kid. Just... take care of her, okay?"
Y/n nodded sincerely, his dark eyes meeting Carlos's with steady determination. "Always."
Katie, standing in the doorway, called out, "Come on, Y/n! You still owe me a ride on your motorcycle!"
Carlos's eye twitched, but Allison nudged him with a laugh. "It's Yes Day, remember?"
As Y/n and Katie rode off into the night (at a very parent-approved speed), Katie couldn't stop smiling. For once, her parents had said yes, and it had turned out better than she'd imagined.
And as Y/n's hand found hers, she knew this was the best Yes Day ever.
