The early morning sun filtered softly through the kitchen window of the Diaz house, casting a warm, golden light across the room. Y/n was already up, moving around the kitchen with practiced ease, wearing only a pair of pajama pants. The muscles of his back and shoulders flexed as he stirred a pan on the stove, a few beads of steam rising with the smell of fresh coffee. Days like this, when everything was calm and quiet, had become his favorite part of being home.

In her high chair nearby, Mariposa giggled, kicking her tiny legs and babbling excitedly each time Y/n tossed an ingredient into the pan. Her big, curious eyes followed his every move, and he reached over to hand her a little spoon, which she immediately began banging on her tray like she was helping.

"Morning, little sous-chef," Y/n chuckled, giving her nose a gentle tap. Mariposa squealed with delight, smacking the spoon again in response. Y/n couldn't help but grin—after years of hopping between dimensions and fighting off monsters in Hekapoo's world, these quiet mornings back home felt like the reward he hadn't known he needed.

He turned back to the stove, flipping a pancake when he heard the soft sound of footsteps padding down the hall. He glanced over his shoulder and smiled as Hekapoo stepped into the kitchen, blinking sleepily. She was dressed in one of his shirts, which hung loosely around her, reaching almost to her knees. Her hair was slightly tousled, and she rubbed her eyes as she made her way over to the table, looking every bit the picture of relaxed comfort.

"Mmm, smells good," she murmured, a sleepy smile tugging at her lips as she took in the spread Y/n had set out. "You really know how to make a girl feel at home."

"Good morning to you, too," Y/n replied, chuckling as he set a mug of coffee next to her seat. "You look cozy."

Hekapoo shrugged, stretching out in her chair. "Your shirts are way comfier than anything I own. Plus, you know, big armor fan." She shot him a smirk as she took a sip of coffee.

"Oh, yeah?" Y/n raised an eyebrow, grinning as he plated a stack of pancakes. "Then consider me your personal knight in sweatpants."

Just then, Mariposa caught sight of Hekapoo and waved her spoon excitedly, babbling with a happy squeal as she reached out for her. Hekapoo's usual fiery demeanor softened as she leaned over, gently booping Mariposa's nose. She chuckled as the baby grabbed at her fingers with an enthusiastic giggle, her little hands grasping Hekapoo's thumb.

"Good morning, little troublemaker," Hekapoo cooed, her eyes shining as she looked at Mariposa. Y/n had seen this side of her more often recently—a tender, gentle side that few outside their little family ever got to witness. He knew how much she adored his little sister, and though she tried to hide it, he saw the soft spot she had for babies.

"You know," Y/n said, raising an eyebrow as he took a seat beside her, "she's completely in love with you. Not that I blame her."

Hekapoo laughed, gently ruffling Mariposa's hair. "Can you blame me? She's adorable." She glanced down at the baby, a hint of wistfulness flickering across her face as she spoke. "Makes you wonder, huh? What it'd be like... to have one of our own."

Y/n's heart swelled at her words. They'd danced around this topic before, but hearing it spoken out loud made it feel real, like a dream they both shared. He reached over, taking her hand in his, and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I think it'd be pretty amazing," he said softly.

For a moment, they sat in comfortable silence, each letting the idea sink in. Mariposa waved her spoon again, babbling as if trying to join the conversation, and Y/n chuckled, breaking the quiet moment.

"Alright, alright," he said, giving Hekapoo a wink as he cut up a small piece of pancake for Mariposa. "Someone's ready for her breakfast."

Hekapoo laughed as Mariposa eagerly grabbed the pancake piece, smushing it a little before bringing it to her mouth, her cheeks puffing with satisfaction as she chewed. Hekapoo watched her, an affectionate smile lingering on her face.

The kitchen was warm with the smell of food and the soft sounds of laughter as they ate together. It was rare for things to feel so slow and easy—most days, Y/n was either training with Marco or fighting off monsters in some unknown corner of Hekapoo's dimension. But right now, with his family safe and his loved ones around him, Y/n couldn't imagine a more perfect morning.

Eventually, the rest of the house began to stir. The soft sound of footsteps down the hall soon turned into Marco's unmistakable voice.

"Yo, Y/n! You're hogging the kitchen!" Marco called out, appearing in the doorway with his hair sticking up in all directions. He blinked when he saw the table covered with breakfast, his eyes lighting up. "Oh man, you went all out."

"Good morning, Marco," Hekapoo said with a grin, leaning back in her chair as Marco pulled up a seat.

"Good morning, Hekapoo," Marco replied, helping himself to a stack of pancakes. "And thank you, Y/n. This is great."

As Marco began digging into his breakfast, Star bounced into the kitchen, her usual cheerful energy evident even in her pajamas. She waved at Hekapoo and Y/n as she grabbed a plate. "Breakfast with the Diazes is officially my favorite thing."

The kitchen filled with lively chatter and laughter as they all dug into breakfast together. Hekapoo leaned into Y/n's shoulder, chuckling as they watched Marco and Star swap stories about their latest adventures. Even with the chaos, there was a comforting warmth in the air, one that reminded Y/n why he kept coming back.

Once breakfast wrapped up, Marco and Star were eager to head out on their own adventure for the day. Y/n's parents, Rafael and Angie Diaz, eventually joined them, and after a round of good-natured hugs and farewells, the house quieted down again. Soon, it was just Y/n, Hekapoo, and Mariposa, who was happily babbling away in her high chair, her eyes bright as she looked up at them.

Hekapoo leaned back, letting out a sigh as she sipped the last of her coffee. "You know," she said, glancing at Y/n with a soft smile, "I don't think I've had this much time to just relax... ever."

He grinned, reaching over to ruffle Mariposa's hair. "That's what family breakfasts are for. Although... it does mean we're the ones left to babysit."

Hekapoo rolled her eyes, though she couldn't hide her grin. "I think we can handle it," she said, reaching out to lift Mariposa from her high chair and settling the little one on her lap. "Besides, I think I'm her favorite person here."

"Oh, you definitely are," Y/n agreed, chuckling as he watched Mariposa nestle happily against Hekapoo.

The morning stretched on in peaceful silence, with Mariposa content to play in Hekapoo's lap while Y/n leaned back, watching them with a soft smile. It was rare to have days like these, free from portals, battles, and looming responsibilities. They'd found something special here—a sense of home that went beyond dimensions or time.

Eventually, Hekapoo looked over at Y/n, her eyes warm. "So... what do you say we take Mariposa for a walk? Get some fresh air before the chaos starts up again?"

Y/n's face lit up. "That sounds perfect."

With Mariposa settled in her stroller, they stepped outside, hand in hand, breathing in the crisp morning air as they strolled through the quiet streets. For all the incredible worlds and wild adventures they'd seen together, nothing quite compared to these moments of simple peace, just the three of them.
