The Skeld's engines hummed, a familiar sound that echoed through the halls as Black stood in the cafeteria. His broad form cast a shadow over the smaller crewmates, but his attention was fixed on one person: Pink.
She was beside him, her shorter, curvy frame outlined by her pink spacesuit, her visor tilted up toward his. She was the only one who could pull him from his thoughts, her presence a constant reminder of why he was doing this. When Pink had first asked him out, Black had only been curious. But now, the thought of losing her was unbearable. He would do anything to protect her.
"I don't like this," Pink whispered, just loud enough for him to hear. "Something feels off today."
Black's hand brushed hers, their gloved fingers barely touching. "Stay close to me," he said, his voice a deep rumble. "I'll make sure you're safe."
Pink smiled, though her visor hid the concern in her eyes. "I always feel safe with you." She leaned closer, her head nearly resting against his arm. For a brief moment, everything else faded-the tasks, the crew, even the threat lurking among them. It was just the two of them.
But Black couldn't forget the truth. He was one of the impostors, tasked with eliminating the crew. The other impostor was lurking somewhere, but they didn't matter to him. His only priority was Pink.
The crew dispersed to their tasks. Black's eyes followed Pink as she made her way to Admin. He was always watching her, ready to step in if anything went wrong. He knew she suspected something was off, but she didn't know the full truth. Not yet.
His comm buzzed. "Blue's gone. Should I take care of Red next?"
Black's jaw tightened. "Do it. But don't get reckless."
He cut the comm and went to Admin, where Pink was finishing her card swipe. She looked up as he entered, her visor tilting in his direction. "You okay?" she asked softly.
"Yeah," he replied, stepping closer. "Just making sure you're alright."
She chuckled, a sound that softened the tension in his chest. "You always do." But there was a pause, her tone shifting. "You've been acting different lately. Is everything okay?"
Black tensed for a second. She was perceptive, always noticing the subtle changes. He couldn't tell her, not yet. "I'm fine. Just... making sure nothing happens to you."
Pink studied him, her visor reflecting the dim lights of Admin. "Okay," she said quietly. "Just... don't shut me out."
As the ship grew more tense, Black's partner became reckless. Orange was found in Navigation, Red in Electrical. The meetings were filled with fear and suspicion, but no one pointed to Black. He was too composed, too protective of Pink. No one would suspect him of anything.
In the final meeting, only a few crewmates remained. Pink stood close to Black, her hand brushing his. "I think it's Green," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "I saw them near Electrical."
Black nodded. "I think she's right," he said to the group. His deep, authoritative voice carried weight, and the crew followed his lead. Green was ejected, floating into the cold void of space.
With only a few left, Black felt the tension ease. But it wasn't over. Not yet. In the final moments, the other impostor, desperate and careless, lunged at Pink in Communications.
Black was there in an instant, his strong arms catching the attack before it could reach her. In one swift motion, he took the other impostor down, leaving their body crumpled at his feet.
Pink stood frozen, staring at the scene in shock. "Black... what..."
Before she could finish, Black turned and caught her gaze. Without hesitation, Pink ran toward him, her arms flying around his neck as she leaped into his arms. Black caught her easily, holding her tightly as she buried her face in his chest.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice trembling with relief. "You saved me."
Black's grip on her tightened, his large hands steady as he held her close. "I told you I'd always protect you."
Timeskip - A New Beginning
The stars twinkled in the vastness of space, the Skeld a distant memory as a new chapter unfolded. Pink stood in a cozy room, gently rocking a baby in her arms. The child's tiny hand clutched her pink spacesuit, a small glimmer of light reflecting off the wedding ring on her finger.
Nearby, Black stood tall, a child perched on his broad shoulders, giggling as they played with his visor. Another little one toddled behind him, trying to keep up with his long strides. Black, once so cold and detached, now had a warmth in his eyes that he never thought possible.
As Pink glanced down at her own hand, the wedding ring glinted softly in the light. She looked at Black, who bent down to scoop up the toddler behind him. "You've become so good at this," she said, her voice filled with admiration.
Black smiled, his gaze soft as he looked back at her. "Only because I've got you."
He shifted the child on his shoulders, who squealed in delight. Pink stepped closer, her free hand resting on his arm, the warmth of their connection stronger than ever.
"We've come a long way, haven't we?" she murmured, looking down at the ring on his finger.
Black nodded, his voice low and steady. "I didn't think I'd ever have this... but now that I do, I'll never let anything happen to you. Or them."
Together, they stood as a family, the stars their only witness. What had started in the shadows of deception had blossomed into a life full of love, safety, and the promise of a future neither had ever imagined.
