Halilintar rarely had moments to himself. As the eldest, he was always busy making sure his younger siblings were safe, sometimes to the point of missing out on simple relaxation. But today, a rare calm had settled over the house. All the brothers were home, scattered around, each doing their own thing. And for once, it seemed like Halilintar had a little space to breathe.
He settled onto the couch with a book—something he'd picked up ages ago and had been meaning to finish. He was about to dive into it when he felt a familiar tug on his arm. He glanced down to see Duri, looking up at him with big, expectant eyes.
"Can we sit with you, Hali?" Duri asked, already making himself comfortable next to Halilintar without waiting for an answer.
Before Halilintar could even respond, Taufan came bouncing over, pulling Blaze along with him. "Hey! What are we reading?" Taufan chirped, leaning over Halilintar's shoulder to peer at the book.
"Nothing you'd be interested in," Halilintar replied with a smirk, closing the book. "Besides, you'd just make noise and distract me."
"Aww, come on, big bro!" Blaze nudged him, grinning. "You always look so serious. Don't you know how to just sit back and have fun?"
With a sigh that couldn't hide his amusement, Halilintar put the book aside. "Alright, fine. What do you guys want to do?"
Duri's face lit up. "Can we tell stories?"
The rest of the brothers had started drifting over at the sound of chatter. Soon enough, Gempa, Solar, and Ice joined in, forming a cozy semicircle around Halilintar on the couch.
"Alright, alright," Halilintar said, trying to hide his fondness at being surrounded by his brothers. "Let's see. There was this one time..."
He began recounting a story from when they were younger, embellishing certain details to make it sound a little more dramatic, causing Taufan and Blaze to exchange amused glances. Solar rolled his eyes but stayed listening, clearly enjoying the story despite himself. Ice and Gempa both watched with soft smiles, while Duri listened, eyes wide with wonder.
"And then," Halilintar continued, leaning forward, "when the villain thought he'd won, we turned it all around! Caught him completely off guard."
Duri gasped, clinging to his older brother's sleeve, while the others chuckled.
"Oh, come on, Hali. That was just you showing off!" Blaze said, poking Halilintar's shoulder.
"Maybe," Halilintar said, shrugging, but he was smiling too. "But it worked, didn't it?"
One by one, the brothers started to share their own versions of old memories, each adding a twist to the tale. As they did, Halilintar couldn't help but feel a wave of warmth and contentment wash over him. Despite their differences and the chaos they sometimes caused, they were his family, and he couldn't imagine being without them.
Eventually, Duri started to nod off against Halilintar's side, his small hand still clutching Halilintar's sleeve. Ice was next, his calm demeanor fading as he yawned, looking like he could fall asleep right then and there. Even Blaze, usually the loudest, was beginning to quiet down, his head resting on Taufan's shoulder.
Halilintar chuckled softly. "Guess you guys finally ran out of energy, huh?"
"Maybe," Solar mumbled, barely managing to keep his eyes open. "Doesn't mean... we're not gonna... tease you later..."
"Sure, sure," Halilintar replied, his voice soft as he looked at each of them. He pulled a blanket over the group, shifting slightly to make sure they were all comfortable.
As they drifted off, Gempa, who was half-awake, murmured, "Thanks, Hali. For... for being here."
Halilintar felt a swell of emotion, one he didn't often show. "Of course," he whispered, tucking the blanket around them a little more snugly. "That's what big brothers are for."
He leaned his head back against the couch, allowing himself to relax completely for the first time in a long while. For tonight, there was no need to be on guard. He closed his eyes, content in the warm, sleepy presence of his brothers.
And in the morning, when they all woke up in a tangled, cozy mess, Halilintar found himself grinning as Blaze, Taufan, and the others groaned, stretching and laughing about their impromptu sleepover. Solar immediately started teasing Halilintar for being a "softie," which, of course, Hali denied with a playful scowl.
But deep down, they all knew the truth—and it was something none of them would ever take for granted.
