As I was setting the table for dinner, Reyansh joined in, helping me arrange the plates. I shot him a big, grateful smile, which he returned with the same enthusiasm. He's truly the sweetest kid I know-always so calm, composed, and mostly quiet. People might assume he's loud and mischievous, which he is, but only when Aksh is around.
Otherwise, Reyansh is incredibly self-sufficient, helping me out without a word of complaint, assisting Aksh with his tasks, and even covering up for his little brother's mistakes.
He spends much of his day in the library, a special place just for him. Sometimes, I see Mr. Singh with Ansh there, sitting beside him, spending hours together. He does the same with Aksh when he's practicing. It's clear how much Mr. Singh treasures his time with his brothers.
It amazes me how well-mannered and grounded these kids are, even without their mother. Papa Ji has raised them with so much love and strength, taking on the responsibility single-handedly. I truly admire him for his resilience.
"Bhabhi, are you reheating the leftover sabji from this morning?" Reyansh asked, gesturing at the dish, and I nodded with a chuckle.
"Yes, Aksh asked me to," I said, amused.
"Tell him to handle his own stuff-he's such a baby," Reyansh said, shaking his head.
"Where is he? Call him down, we're all set for dinner," I replied, admiring the neatly set table. Of course, since Reyansh had done it, everything was perfectly arranged, just like his brother.
"Aksh, come down! Dinner's ready!" Reyansh called out from the staircase.
"Yes, Bhai, two minutes!" came Aksh's instant reply. Smiling, I headed toward the home office to call Papa Ji and Pichu to join us.
The sight in the office melted my heart. Papa Ji was on the floor with Pichu sprawled across his lap, both laughing hysterically. Papa Ji was tickling him with all his heart, and Pichu's giggles echoed throughout the room, filling it with warmth and joy.
Papers from Papa Ji's files lay scattered across the floor, adding to the beautiful chaos. Gosh, these adorable people are going to be the end of me.
"Ahem ahem," I fake coughed to get their attention. Pichu quickly freed himself from Papa Ji's grip, still laughing as he stumbled over to me, his little hands waving around. He hugged my legs, and I scooped him up into my arms.
"What's going on here? Papa Ji, I know you're the one troubling my little babu" I teased, narrowing my eyes playfully.
"Oh really? Don't you think it's the other way around? Of course, meri side kyu li jayegi" he replied, feigning sadness.
(Why will you take my side?)
"Yes, only my Pichu baby, no one else," I said, planting a big kiss on Pichu's cheek.
"Waah, beta, gaddari!" Papa Ji chuckled, coming over to pinch my cheeks with a grin.
(Betrayal)
We laughed together, and I extended my free arm to hug him sideways. He laughed along with me, giving me a gentle kiss on the forehead.
"Time for dinner, aren't you hungry, my little fluff ball?" I asked Pichu in a playful, baby-like tone.
"Chachuuuuu!" Pichu whined, his lips forming an adorable pout. Clearly, he wanted his chachus with him; they're inseparable.
"They're already waiting for you at the table, you little troublemaker," I cooed at him. "here we are fighting for you baby and you're taking sides with your chachus, huh?" I teased, squinting my eyes at him.
