FRESHMEN YEAR- APRIL

MARCH

~Alex's POV~

This school year has been full of surprises that I never saw coming. I've made friends with people I wouldn't have dared to talk to, got into one of the top schools in the country, and kind of let my fashion line take a backseat. But honestly, I never even thought about being nominated for Classroom Council president; it didn't even make my list of possibilities.

It started with a small letter in my mailbox. Tearing open the seam and scanning over the note, I thought nothing of it as I speculated that it was another threat letter. Then, I read it over again. An invitation to an interest meeting. The name that signed off this letter was unfamiliar to me. "Ms. Nikita" is not a teacher I have heard or seen throughout the school. Or I may have. The only teacher I actually know is Mr. Gilroy, and even then I still sometimes lose him in the crowd of other teachers who work here.

When I get to class I show Jade, Levi, and Light the letter. Light has little to no idea what it is, so he says dismissively that I shouldn't worry about it. Levi and Jade read it over actually, and insisted that I go and check it out. At first, I was uncertain about going and figuring out what this was. After rereading the letter several times and mustering up the courage that it would be a good idea—once the bell signaling the end of homeroom rang— I got up from my seat and left with only my crossbody bag.

I have to say that I'm still getting used to the school. The supposed short journey extends into a thirty-minute one of me wandering through the halls as I read the door tags beside and on the doors. I even ended up on the base floor. I don't know how, but I'm quick to jam the elevator button to send me back up. Eventually, I think it was one of the highest floors aside from our classroom, I strolled along the tiled halls glancing from door panel to door panel until my eyes finally landed on the one I had been seeking: 73-A.

A sound of contentment and relief escapes my lips as I relax my fingers around the cooled handle of the door and give it a gentle tug open. I stepped into the room, concealing the strained look on my face with a smile, and scanned the room to take in everyone present... No one. No one else was here except for who I assumed was Ms. Nikita typing away at her keyboard as she looked up to the monitor on her desk. Entering the room quietly, I feel relieved that the carpet dampens my footsteps, and I take in every little detail of the room's decorations.

Aside from the long table draped in a pearly white tablecloth, the room was a relatively rectangular space with a dark vibe: an actual meeting room. Sweet spring aromas and cinnamon-based ones rotate when Ms. Nikita walks by, her cinnamon scent overriding the spring ones. The lights were off and the only source of light was coming from the smart board at the front of the room just behind the chair propped at the end opposing the table. Matching the navy walls with gold trim, the knitted carpet beneath my chair mutes the pattering of my shoes as I swing my legs back and forth on the chair. I'm still quite short, so my legs aren't long enough to touch the ground. Only the tips of my shoes.

I fold my hands on the table, twirling my thumbs around one another. A grand, throne-like chair edged elegantly in gold trims sits at the end of the table across from me, the length of the table being the only thing separating me from it. Of course, I'm the first one here, and I watch as others file into the room and fill up the seats along the sides of this table. To my surprise, I do end up seeing a few familiar faces. Chiaki walks in, rubbing her knuckles into her eyes and lowering into a place a seat away from me. Darkness walks in a student or two after, nervously scanning the room until her eyes meet mine— with a sheepish smile, she waves to me. I return it. After she sits not too far from me, there are only four more seats left. After that thought crosses my mind, Levi suddenly steps into the room, spots me, and sits in the seat to my right. Now, get this, Candi I was not at all shocked to see walk in and claim a seat excitedly. Seeing Drake walk in after really made my eyes pop open a smidge. He spots us, walks over, and sits in the seat between Chiaki and I. Pulling his hood over his head, Drake's fingers dive into his pockets, smoothing into the waiting ether with the rest of us.
