FRESHMEN YEAR- APRIL
~Alex's POV~
His birthday is this weekend. But, of course, nothing can go as easily as I would like it to be. With all of the Classroom Council meetings I have been attending, for some reason, not once did I reconsider if I had a gift for Light or not. And, surprise surprise, I don't! And nothing comes to mind for it, either. From the looks of it, he has everything and is content. I could give him a high five and he would be fine with it!
I'm sure the look of panic on my face is evident and it is confirmed when someone rests a hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently. I look up to see Levi, who sits in the seat he had pulled up beside me. His hands drop along with my eyes to his phone. I don't know what video is playing, but I know it isn't done, and I decide to scroll at least six videos away from it before looking back at Levi. He stares at me dumbfounded; I only giggle. And, without a single warning, he tempers with the line he hadn't even known I had put a warning on.
Though, the words pour out of me and I can only thank the sky above that Light is not in the room right now. Levi hums with intrigue. "So, that's what you're over here stressing about?"
"I am not stressing!"
"Yes, you are," confirms Levi, a chuckle following. "It's on your face."
I can almost feel my face pale when it drops. "You're lying. No way, stop messing with me!"
And with his little ego, he laughs. "Gotcha. I mean, I could tell, but I don't think anyone else would pay much mind to it, alright? You're all good."
Relief cools me down. I could call it an ocean wave on a summer day. "Thank goodness. You are not funny."
That stupid amused grin slithers onto his face. He leans back into his seat, tapping the top of his phone case with his finger. If this were a game he had won, the look on his face alone would name him the victor. "I'd say I'm pretty hilarious," Levi comments, tipping his head slightly. "But, seriously, do you have a plan or anything? Or are you just going to wing it and hope Light doesn't notice?"
"I will not be winging it! I just haven't figured something out yet," I protest fiestily. Heat creeps up the back of my neck to contradict the statement.
He raises a brow. "So, winging it."
With an eye roll, I push my chair back. "I'll have enough time."
"Sure." Levi tilts his head, clearly unconvinced. Before I can remark, he cuts me off, "You know Light better than anyone. It couldn't be that hard to find something. What's something he has been talking about recently?"
"Frogs."
His brows raise on his forehead, threatening to disappear behind his hair. "... Wasn't expecting that. Well, sort of. But, anything that couldn't be considered a pet?"
I shake my head. That's the problem that started this entire thing. Light is a self-sufficient person; whatever he sees he wants, he'll get it right then if he can. He's also the kind of person who doesn't want or need anything "over the top" as he'd call it. I'm so mad that a high five would be enough to satisfy him as a present.
"I don't know," I admit, slumping forward and resting my chin on my hand. "He's too chill about everything! I don't want to end up getting him something dumb, but he only enjoys it because I'm his sister. And over the years, I've already gotten him everything."
